Tutorial 1: Control Theory I: “Communicating about feedback control between engineering and biology perspectives”

• Please have paper and pen/pencil or a tablet you can draw on (some pens/paper will be provided). 

Tutorial 2: ML & Image Processing I: “3D Pose estimation using DeepLabCut”

Led by: Jack Supple

Room: RSM 131

• Please bring a laptop with:

  • Anaconda and Deeplabcut installed following steps 1-2 in the instructions here:

https://deeplabcut.github.io/DeepLabCut/docs/installation.html (You do not need to install for GPU, we will use google colab for training)

• The ‘DeepLabCut-BISCCIT-Tutorial’ folder uploaded to your google drive:

  • Download from this link https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1gv6ecfIq0VOwRMDGYkIydZmczWLreZTj?usp=sharing 

  • Unzip

  • Upload the ‘DeepLabCut_BISCCIT_Tutorial’ folder to your google drive

  • We will run code on the data in this folder for the tutorial

Tutorial 3: MUJOCO Modeling: “Introduction to biomechanical modeling in MuJoCo”

  • If you want to work on your local computers, please plan to set up a conda environment (instructions can be found at: https://github.com/elliottabe/mujoco_workshop2024).

Tutorial 4: Image Processing II: “Videogrammetry Basics”

Led by: Shane Windsor and Jasmin Wong

Room: RSM 303

Hands-on on tutorial where you will be taught to track the motion of moving objects using multiple consumer video cameras.

• Please bring a laptop.

A limited number of laptops preloaded with software will be available.

• To use your own laptop please download and install DLT software from Ty Hedricks lab (https://biomech.web.unc.edu/dltdv/)

  • Please also download instructions and an example data set from here: BISCCIT Videogrammetry Workshop

  • The DLT software can be run without MATLAB, but some parts of the workflow in the tutorial will use MATLAB.

  • If you do not have MATLAB the necessary data files for these steps are provided with the example data set. Alternatively a free 30 day trial of MATLAB is available: https://uk.mathworks.com/campaigns/products/trials.html

Tutorial 5: Control Theory II: “Application of control-engineering concepts for identification and modeling of biological systems”

  • Install: a recent version of MATLAB (a 30-day free trial is available here: Trials - MATLAB& Simulink (mathworks.com)). 

  • Datasets will be provided via a cloud drive.
