I am interested in women's work, phenomena of alienation and empowerment, with particular emphasis on women's life writings and auto/biographies.

Publications recommended

Becoming bell hooks. A story about the self-empowerment of a Black girl who became a feminist (EBOOK)

This book is the story of Gloria Jean Watkins (1952-2021), a Black woman from a small town in Kentucky who became a bell hooks – a feminist icon, one of the most significant and courageous voices of the contemporary debates on racial discrimination, feminism, and women’s and minority rights. The author focuses on the autobiographical dimension of bell hooks’ essays – it is a story about “biographical work” of a woman who creates herself in the course of writing her autobiography.
  • The book received an Honourable mention in the 6th Edition of the Anselm Strauss award, organized by the Section of Qualitative Sociology and Symbolic Interactionism of the Polish Sociological Society.

Michael Jackson as a mythical hero. An anthropological perspective (EBOOK)

The aim of this book is to investigate how traits of a mythical hero are manifested in modern culture and, to be more precise, in social beliefs about Michael Jackson. These beliefs are traces leading to complex levels of understanding the phenomenon of pop culture and its taboo. Pop culture makes up its own mythologies and creates its own heroes, but it does so with a reference to the more complex cultural wholeness. This book is an attempt to follow these references and reflect on them.
