130 years
of the Lvov-Warsaw School
of the Lvov-Warsaw School
International Conference, September 27–29, 2025
In 2025, we celebrate the 130th anniversary of the founding of the Lvov-Warsaw School. In 1895, Kazimierz Twardowski took up the chair of philosophy in Lwów, initiating the creation of a modern philosophical school. The school flourished during the interwar period, with Warsaw becoming its second major center. During this time, the Lwów-Warsaw School's work produced its most significant achievements: its logical and philosophical contributions gained international recognition. From 1939 to 1960, the School's activities suffered a collapse due to World War II and its political aftermath. Nevertheless, individual members of the Lwów-Warsaw School continued their creative and educational work both in Poland and in exile. As a result, the tradition of the Lwów-Warsaw School endured, and it can be said that research on the School's legacy and in its spirit is as active today as at any time since 1939.
The conference "130 Years of the Lvov-Warsaw School" aims to present recent research on the history and outcomes of the School. Both distinguished experts on the School's achievements and young scholars who are just beginning to explore this research tradition will be invited to participate.
The conference will also feature the presentation of work on the "Encyclopedia of the Lvov-Warsaw School" - a bilingual publication prepared by the Lvov-Warsaw School Research Center, available in both print and online formats.
