Toshiba International Foundation (TIFO) strives to contribute to enhanced international understanding of Japan by promoting cultural exchanges, including organization and sponsorship of symposia and seminars.
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants
Non-profit organizations
Organizations that have or will have a bank account in its officially registered name for the remittance of grant.
Projects
Projects that meet TIFO's objectives and the above mentioned project categories for grant. The project should deepen understanding of Japan, especially overseas.
Projects, or a discrete part of a continuing project, that can be completed within one fiscal year (April 1st of one year to March 31st of the following year).
The following are ineligible and will not be accepted.
Applications from individuals
Application for a lump-sum grant for the same project over a period of more than three years.
Application for expenses to stay in Japan for an extended period
Project Areas:
TIFO supports projects that promote understanding of Japan, and divides them into the following four categories:
Symposia and seminars that promote international understanding of Japan
Cultural programs that promote international understanding of Japan
Research and studies that promote international understanding of Japan
Programs to foster future experts who will contribute to promoting international understanding of Japan
Grant Size:
TIFO grant amounts are determined on the basis of specific estimate contained in applications, and grant funds shall not to be used to pay for any costs other than those expressly detailed in the application
Grant Duration:
Projects, or a discrete part of a continuing project, that can be completed within one fiscal year (April 1st of one year to March 31st of the following year).
The Asia-Pacific Network (APN) invites proposals under the Collaborative Regional Research Programme (CRRP)for funding from 1 October 2022. A limited amount of financial support is available for regional research and capacity development activities that fall within its areas of interest. With this, APN invites trans- and interdisciplinary research and capacity development proposals that reflect the themes below.
Themes (for Southeast Asia)
COVID-19 pandemic in the perspective of its impacts on the environment
Nature-based solutions for food security
Climate smart agriculture
Climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction
Water security and water resources
Transboundary issues (air pollution, waste management, electronic waste, microplastics)
Bio-Circular-Green Economy
Activities
Activities related to the CRRP research programme that APN supports cover the following:
Collaborative research on global change and sustainability that, particularly, addresses gaps, analysis, synthesis and assessment work.
Collaborative research that develops pathways and mechanisms to achieve sustainable development and develop adaptation strategies.
Collaborative place-based integrative research particularly from developing countries
Collaborative research that contributes to the Paris Agreement, Sustainable Development Goals, Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, UN Decade of Ocean Science (2021-2030), as well as the accumulation of scientific knowledge at IPCC, IPBES, etc.
Eligibility Criteria
Researchers, academics, practitioners working in institutions based in APN member or approved countries are eligible to apply for an APN grant.
Special consideration for early-career professionals - APN reiterates the importance of enhancing support to, and engagement of, early-career professionals (ECPs) in the Asia-Pacific region by providing a platform for ECPs to utilize their knowledge and innovative ideas to address regional issues related to global change and sustainability. Therefore, APN encourages applications from ECPs. Collaborative regional research proposals submitted by ECPs that fulfil the eligibility criteria will receive particular attention.
Please note that APN does not support:
The running costs of institutions;
The salaries of administration staff; the salaries of researchers who receive or are to receive full-time salary support;
The salaries of consultants (project leaders and collaborators should have the expertise to conduct the activities);
The maintenance of long-term observation and monitoring systems; and
General purpose equipment such as personal computers, laptops, smartphones, tablets or fixed office structures (desks, chairs, etc).

Submission Procedure
The proponent must submit a Summary Proposal by completing the submission form in the APN Information System, APNIS.

Activities related to the CAPaBLE programme that APN supports cover the following:
Capacity development activities that promote the following approaches related to one or more of the five thematic areas of APN:
Utilizing and strengthening existing capacity
Creating opportunities to use/instil capacity
Developing new capacity through innovative approaches
Awareness-raising and dissemination activities for policy- and decision-making communities, civil society and/or the general public.
Science-policy interfacing in the context of the five thematic areas and priority topics.
Capacity development partnership activities that contribute to the capacity development components of the evolving global change arena, including including the UNFCCC Paris Agreement, IPCC, IPBES, post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals, Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and the UN Decade of Ocean Science as well as ongoing and new global change and sustainability research programmes.
Activities geared towards using science communication as a way to disseminate knowledge generated from projects, particularly to non-science audiences.

Grant Amount - Up to RM50,000 per application
Project Period: Project to commence in 2022 and should not exceed 12 months
