The SATU Presidents' Forum International Secretariat launched the SATU Joint Research Scheme (SATU JRS) in 2012 to provide a collaborative platform that facilitates academic research cooperation among SATU member universities.
Acceptable topics include those involving Liberal Arts, Management, Sciences, Social Science, Engineering, Electrical Engineering & Computer Science, Planning & Design, Bioscience & Biotechnology, and Medicine in Southeast and South Asia, and multidisciplinary research. Each project consists of a team of researchers, including a Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-Principal Investigator(s) (Co-PI(s)) from SATU member universities.

Investigators must be working at SATU member universities and have a doctoral degree.
To apply for the project(s) as PI, please complete the "PI Application Form"
Notify UTM RMC of your application submission at internationalscouting.rmc@utm.my.
Selection of your Co-PI (Call for Co-PI's application opens on 8 April 2021)
Matching result. by SATU
Submit your matching grant application form to RMC (email to internationalscouting.rmc@utm.my) for matching grant approval.
JRS projects are funded by individual host universities. Each host university may provide funding to implement a given project.
For approved projects, UTM will provide grant to UTM researchers.
The grant will cover the direct cost of research only.
The amount of grant disbursed will depend on each project and based on 50:50 (PI : Co-PI) ratio of which the maximum amount provided to UTM researcher is RM 50,000.

Malaysia-France Bilateral Research Collaboration 2021 (MATCH 2021) is a joint funding program with the objective of structuring and stimulating research cooperation between France and Malaysia. The initiative is also to continue to work together in research collaboration after the successful implementation of PHC-Hibiscus grant.
This program is based on a call for projects, an independent evaluation process and a selection of projects guided by a common interest and ambition for excellence.
The call for projects is open to all research teams of both countries, from research institutes or from public or private companies having started joint research
Eligibility Criteria:
Principal Investigators may only submit one application to this scheme as Principal Investigator, but may be involved in more applications if listed as a Co-Investigator
The Malaysian PI must have been awarded a doctorate at the time of application.
Applicants must be Malaysian citizens and hold a permanent or fixed term contract (minimum one-year term) in an eligible university
The Malaysian applicant’s employing organisation must be willing to agree to administer the grant.
Malaysian applicants will need to adhere to MoHE progress and outcomes monitoring requirements

The development of interdisciplinary collaborations and projects which address skills in within the areas listed below will be particularly welcomed:
Environment, Climate Change, and Sustainable Cities
Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security
Health (Infectious Diseases, Non-Communicable Diseases and
Epidemiology)
Information and Communications Technology (AI and
Multimedia, Big Data and Cybersecurity, ICT for Ageing)
Engineering and Frontier Technology
Social Science and Economic
Grant Size and Duration:
Projects have a duration of two(2) years
Financed according to each party's funding process on an equal basis by each of the parties
Malaysian applicants may apply up to RM50,000 for each project.
Stipend for post-doctoral or PhD students must not be paid from this grant.
Complementary funding (including in-kind contribution from the university or other institutions) is highly encouraged. Proof of funding is required and must be attached in the application form.
