2024 Map Competition for Tennessee Students

What: An ArcGIS Online map competition for Tennessee middle school and high school students.
Deadline to register your school for the contest: Friday March 22, 2024 by 5:00 pm ET

Deadline for submitting maps to the state: Friday April 26, 2024 by 5:00 pm ET
State award winners announced: Monday May 6, 2024
National award winners announced: Tuesday May 28, 2024
Who is eligible: All Tennessee public, private, or home-schooled students are eligible to enter the contest. Maps can be submitted individually or as a team of two students. Limit of one entry per student or team.
Entry Limit: Each school will be limited to five maps for submission to the state contest. All maps entered should be judged using the rubric under the Judging Criteria tab.
Theme: For this year's contest you must focus on content within Tennessee's borders and present it as an ArcGIS Story Map. Data from outside the state may be used for context.
Awards: The five maps judged the best in each division will be awarded a $100 gift card and will be submitted to ESRI. The top map in each division will be judged at the national level by ESRI. The top Tennessee story map in the middle and high school division will each receive a wooden plaque from Woolpert.
ArcGIS Online Requirement: You must use ArcGIS Online to create an original map that features an interesting story about your home state. The map you submit must be in ESRI's new story map format. The contest will no longer accept legacy story map forms such as cascade or journal.
ArcGIS Online Organization Requirement: You must build and host your story map in your school's ArcGIS Online organization account. The contest will not accept entries from public accounts. Use the link below to register your school if you do not already have a free ArcGIS Online organizational account.
ArcGIS Online is available to any K-12 school in the United States free of charge from Esri:
Go to http://www.esri.com/industries/education/software-bundle# to sign up for a free ArcGIS Online school organization account. Your final map must be created using the school organization account. You may not use a public account.
Fine Print
Middle School Division - grades 6 - 8
Senior High Division - grades 9 - 12
Students must submit a signed permission form along with their mapping entry
A student may only submit one entry
Note: Teams spanning grade levels will be entered in the division of the student at the upper grade.
Award-winning maps must remain visible to the public for one year.
