well, i have always wanted a cute litte enclosed corexy, but i feel voron 0's 120^3 is a too small for my needs and the kits are too expensive without much gain on my part
ofc i want a printer with a decent community behind it or i'll just get stuck on firmware or some super specific problem that might make the project impossible
ender 3 although being open-sourced plus a huge community is too big and have pretty outdated hardware (v-wheels, bowden extruder, bad steppers)
so this random printer is $89 when i bought it, packs some nice hardware like: 2 mgn12s linear rails, clone e3d titan extruders, 3 nema 17 stepper motors, heater bed and "fairly well documented" mainboard
it also a suprising big community of people modding and over time, i just realized that this printer is just a smaller ender 3
sorry for the absolute yap lol

i have a bambu a1m and yeah i must admit that it's a work horse
this project stems from my embrarassment of the fact that i don't know a lot about 3d printer before going into thisÂ
it's also a good all-rounder project, theres so many thing to practice engineering on, and it's my first actual project with high budget and not be a joke

ultimaker, leapfrog, prusa, luzbot, creality, flashforge, kingroon, sovol, comgrow, elegoo, bambu lab, anycubic, ankermake, twotrees, biqu, flsun, artillery, qidi tech...Â

that the result of consuming too much 3d printing youtube lol
started this project by researching what printer hardware + software should be used and whether or not a sub-$200 price point is possibleÂ
after quite a bit of research over winter break, software is obvious, the printer will be running klipper firmware on a BTT pi v1.3
tool head is still under alot of consideration, such as whether to use volcano heat block or keep the current v5 block, titan extruder will be kept. There is debate on 1 or 2 part cooling fan and is aux fan worth it
purchased btt pi for ~$30
i cant actually do anything yet because i dont know where to start
i'll start by studying the printer that this project is going to based on, the voron v0.1/0.2

up to this point, i honestly did not know if this entire project is possible
i know it can be done, but not with my current skill and knowledge level, but i guess i'll figure it out... it's not like this is the whole point of this project
anyways, after watching copius amount of 3d printing yuotube and intensely studying voron 0.2 cad, i felt confident enough to completely disassemble the "victim" printer to finally see what kinda parts i'm working with
anyways, the purple parts in the picture are my first protoype of motor tensioners meaning the "r&d" phrase is fully underway

so yeah i think the name of the printer is going to be theÂ
voroon korexy p3s, based on the original printer name kp3s. The voroon name kinda fits because it's kind of a cheap knock off of a real voron v0.2 anywaysÂ
solidworks, or as i often call it solidoesntworksÂ
i hate solidworks but keeps coming back to it
yet again another excuse for the project, i will never get familar enough with this program with just a single class
often i need a "drawing board" for brainstorming, and idea validation
this is a onshape cad document created at the start that isn't used for any actual designs
just movin' stuff around to get an idea of the sizes of extrusions, and maximum tool head sizeÂ
now the printer is going to be named koroon p3s (kingroon + voron, again different combo) no "korexy" this time since "kor" kinda alr sound like "core"
the previous name feels too close to voron, which feels like an injustice to the voron because it's such a amazing printer and mine is infinitely worse
so its more appropriate to name it closer to where most parts of it was derived from, the kingroon kp3sÂ
since the project is offically a conversion of the kp3s, the final goal is to still be using this control board
which is a bit of a pain, since it is not very well documented and limited in features, it isn't the one i'll be using if i was picking the control board
luckly, it is based of "makerbase mks robin nano" control board, pins from this board seems to match so that's good
there is also a klipper config file and firmware from the amazing community, so that's great (one of the factors i considered when starting)
the overall hardware is also a bit sketchy, like the whole board is supplied with a barrel connector, so i doubt the longevity of the barrel portÂ
why is this thing still $40?? with that kind of money one could do much better
3d printed part for a 3d printer!
this makes me feel like i was a part of the good old rep rap movement, but im not, 3d printing is a bit of a different landscape now

uhhh so i have alot of 2020s (20 of them) to tap with m5 thread for 2020 blind jointÂ
and im lazy and dont want to do it by hand
and i dont have any training on lathe or mill or drill press
so dewalt dcd800 + eye balling it is, what could possibly go wrong??
slowly but surely i will get them all tapped and drilled

anyways, it's very interesting how much im learning in these "side quests", simple things such as "tapping" meaning cutting a thread into an undersized hole (these extrusion holes are 4.5mm for m5 tap)
also the different types of taps, like normal or sprial flute (i got this one)
im very happy that i now know
2 am 06th of March 2025, an important milestone for koroon p3s development
okay, thats too dramatic but i finally have enough parts, and tapped enough 2020s to assembled a bare bones frame for the printer
>i cannot believe this came out of a bambu, but probably wet filament to blame
but on the flip side, i'd be happy if koroon p3s can even produce prints like thisÂ
i felt decent about the prototype so decided to print out a one set of part for the motor mount with "final" print settings
abs 3d printing gave me nightmares before (see below)
i took a wild guess that this particular abs filament shrinks by 7%, meaning i scaled the parts up by 7%
and luck was with me this time, because that turns out to be the perfect amount of scaling to compensate for the shrinkage and the parts came out very dimesionally accurate
aside from the scaling, i also slowed down most things in the generic abs profile on bambu studio to make sure that these parts will not fail
>the abs nightmare i talked about was all from this printer in high school, and i don't want to talk about it again warping, warping, warping and warping
>i just wanted to contrast that with how straight-forward printing abs is now (granted i know alot more than from high school) but the advancement in 3dp is clear

i have only looked at it on cad and had no idea if the belt path is correctÂ
suprisingly, it is, and it worked!
but it also came with some unplesant ticking noise that i did not like
it took me quite a while to find out that the belt is riding on the bearing flange due to the misalignment of the y-axis linear rails relative to the belt pathÂ
i ended up re-aligning the y-axis linear rails and added some washer to the middle of the bearing stack, to make a bigger idler so that the belt would stay between the bearing flange
