I have worked in education for twelve years and have been around Dual Language Immersion (DLI) programs for the majority of that time. I have had the opportunity to work with five different DLI languages and have learned to love each language and the cultures that come with each language. Â
I have been amazed at the ability our students have to pick up language. Three of my four children are progressing through their DLI program, with our fourth child anxiously awaiting his turn to participate.Â
Each language comes with its own benefits. I look to the future with our German DLI students and the opportunities this language is opening for them. German is one of the top business languages in the world, allowing our students to live successful lives through lucrative careers. Many German companies have ties even in Utah, so our students can benefit from and use their German language abilities at home, as they influence the global economy.Â
The concept of an immersion program is foreign to many adults. I get excited to share about our German DLI program with anyone who will listen to clear up any misunderstandings and to help spread the excitement that comes with our program. I appreciate that our program is open to all who are interested. It is not a gifted program, but a program for all. Â
We are lucky to be a part of this great program, helping our students to better themselves as they become proficient in both the German and English languages.Â
