Every year, region and Central Materials engineers have to determine if a concrete mix design should be reapproved for another year or if a new design should be approved. This applies for use in both highway projects and precast products. Determination is based on data points including sample compressive strength, average compressive strength, and if the test results were within acceptable range. This determination process was time consuming and inconsistent because the information was not held in a centralized location nor easy to access.
A centralized, interactive Looker Studio dashboard was developed that provides a visual of key performance metrics for each mix design. Raw concrete test data was reviewed applying ACI 301 criteria to calculate whether each mix met strength requirements and fell within the acceptable statistical range.
The Concrete Break Analysis Dashboard speeds up the process of reviewing the break history and running the statistical analysis. This tool will save Material engineers approximately 15 to 30 minutes for each mix design renewal (with an average of 225 mix designs to be renewed every year). Additionally, the dashboard enables stakeholders to look at all test results for a given supplier at once, and also to have a breakdown of failure rates across all suppliers.
