Central GIS hosts a widely used UDOT application called FME (Feature Manipulation Engine) Flow. The application allows users to create automated workflows and publish reports. Because the server has limitations on the number of processes and workflows that can be run at a time, the GIS team needed a way to monitor when these workflows run so as new ones are added, they can better determine the run times. They also needed a way to monitor any failed processes so that the owner of that specific workflow could be notified.
The monitor app presents system information in a dashboard. The dashboard groups all the services based on the process owner so that it is easy to understand the server status. It also includes a calendar that lists when all the processes are scheduled to run. This helps define when new services are scheduled to improve and optimize the server run capacity.
The dashboard and calendar have helped Central GIS monitor the overall health of the FME server. Individual process owners have benefited from notification if or when their processes have stopped working so they can conduct repairs. This keeps over 300 processes up and running smoothly.
