Second ICAI WorkShop on Smart Sustainable Cities

Abstract

The International Telecommunication Union ITU define a smart sustainable city as : “An innovative city that uses information and communication technologies (ICTs) and other means to improve quality of life, efficiency of urban operation and services, and competitiveness, while ensuring that it meets the needs of present and future generations with respect to economic, social, environmental as well as cultural aspects”.

The aim of this Workshop is to present recent results in this area, discussing new methods or algorithms, or applications in different areas including architecture, cultural, tourism, mobility, among others.

Introduction

In Colombia, the Bogotá Universities Network called RUMBO (as in spanish Red Universitaria Metropolitana de Bogotá) create a focus group called Focus Group on Smart Sustainable Cities and It justifies as follows: “Universities associated with RUMBO interested in the contribution that the Colombian academy can make in their environment, They’ve considered important to understand how technology contributes to better living in cities. In this way, they have decided to form a group called Intelligent Cities to dialogue, integrate and develop projects that have an impact on the environment through their knowledge and research processes.” At the same time, this focus group remarks: “The Colombian Universities have a permanent concern in contributing from their different areas of knowledge and research in the improvement of the country and in the particular case of cities, as it has been developing globally. For this reason, a space has been created where independent initiatives can be directed and articulated to promote and enable the growth of its objective, including as many actors as possible.”

The workshop will be hosted during the 2nd International Conference on Applied Informatics (ICAI), which aims to bring together researchers and practitioners working in different domains in the field of informatics in order to exchange their expertise and to discuss the perspectives of development and collaboration.

ICAI will be held in the Universidad Complutense de Madrid located in Madrid, Spain, from 7th to 9th November 2019. It is organized by the Universidad Distrital Francisco Jose de Caldas, Universidad de Bogota Jorge Tadeo Lozano, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Universidad Nacional de Loja, Universidad a Distancia de Madrid, and BITrum Research Group.
