Connor: Alright alright, all jokes aside, Antela was formed by former Commander Salamander members Connor Wolfley and Tucker Davis. We were roommates living in Logan, Utah, attending the university [up there]. Tucker and I wanted to take a course together, so we found a podcasting course that counted as a general study for both of us. Enrolled, we were required to make five podcasts over the length of the semester. [Thus], the 'Groove With Us’ Podcast was born.
Connor (cont.): We each had a mic. I’d play synth, and Tucker would play drums. During our podcast, we’d jam and talk about the song writing process; ending each podcast with a finished song. Our first EP titled “Pitfall” includes the songs we made during each podcast.
Connor (cont.): The early sounds of Antela were highly influenced by our professor, Matthew LaPlante (yes, we were somewhat of a kiss-ass). These influences can be heard in Fade It and A Wyoming State of Mind, where Matthew requested sounds reminiscent of David Bowie and Limp Bizkit.
Today- the band consists of Connor, Tucker, Jack Relyea (Inmost), Niall Thorley (Strawberry Jam), and Ronan Gray (Caleb & the Haze). Current influence for the band includes psych-pop, psych-rock, and early electronic music. A few of my favorite tracks include Into the Storm, Bomber Lamb, Book/Novel, and their latest single Thank You Nevermind. (I’d also be lying if I said I didn’t pull up their cover of Radiohead’s Creep anytime someone brings up that song.)
Sworn to secrecy, the one thing Antela says you can expect from a show is music. However, me and my big mouth says you can expect one of the most entertaining and mellifluous sets you’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Plus, the Universe will whisper all of its secrets into your ears while you are there...
Luckily for you, you can catch Antela at K-UTE Radio’s very own Gone Fishin’ on August 30th at Kilby Court.
Their thoughts on playing the show?: “Nervous. We lost all our songs in a custody battle :/"
