Claudia Cohen, An Edible Alphabet
(Seattle: Claudia Cohen, 2010)
An Edible Alphabet is a limited edition artist book by Claudia Cohen, a skilled bookbinder. This book reflects her love of letterforms, fanciful page compositions, and elegant binding structures. Each page features a letter of the alphabet in three fonts, reproduced from stencils and surrounded by the names of foods starting with that letter.Â
The paper used in this book is a wafer-thin vintage laid paper, which is French folded and sewn in a long-stitch binding. The vellum structure with three slips adds a layer of sophistication to the book's design. The outer case is made from pieces of 18th and 19th century parchment documents, giving the book a historical feel.
