Summer Camps 2023

The School for the Deaf offers many extracurricular opportunities for deaf and hard-of-hearing students across the state. Summer camps keep students focused on education with STEM, art, literacy, dance, cheerleading, basketball, science, drama, several preschool camps, and overnight outdoor camps. These experiences are critical to the social development of USD students and afford opportunities to enhance their language experiences. 

Deaf and hard-of-hearing students are welcome to participate in our many activities intended to enrich their lives. These programs provide opportunities, outside scheduled school hours, for students and families to hone skills beyond the core curriculum regardless of their affiliation with USD.

On Friday, June 2nd let’s kick off summer with a movie! Kindergarten through High School students are invited to come and watch the new Little Mermaid. Parents will drop off and pick up students at the West Valley Megaplex Theater (3601 S 2400 W, West Valley City, UT 84119). Drop off time is 10 am. Pick up time around noon.

This camp will be an inclusive language-focused overnight summer camp for the entire family. The purpose of this summer camp is to bring families closer together, be immersed in ASL and learn how to best support your student. We will have fun family activities, workshops, and ASL storytelling!

NAC Desolation Rafting

Curiosity Camp - Jurassic Quest

Join us to spark your child’s curiosity this summer by having them join me paleontologist Dr. Munkondya of the SUSD Dino institute. Monday and Wednesday your student will create dinosaur/fossil exhibits in our institute. Tuesday is when we engage in our field work at the dinosaur park (Thunder Junction all abilities park). Thursday the public will be invited for the grand opening of the SUSD museum where or students will be the paleontologists and tour guides.

This camp will run a Mock Gallaudet Battle of the Books Competition. Students will be assigned 2 books to read on their grade level. We will have team meetings to review chapters and prepare for the competition. On our last day of camp we will have our Team competitions and go bowling. Secondary students that have previously participated in BOTB will have leadership opportunities and can be team leaders for our Competition. If you cannot attend all sessions, please sign up and we can assign study to make up missed sessions.

Curiosity Camp - Circus Mayhem

Ladies and Gentleman, boys and girls, children of all ages join us to spark your child’s curiosity this summer by introducing them to the most amazing, spectacular, not actually dangerous circus feats! Monday and Wednesday your students will learn their circus routines and practice them for an exhibition for the public on Thursday. Tuesday we will meet Town Square park to ride the carousel.

Searching for sous chefs for the brand new SUSD restaurant. Join us for kitchen training Monday and Wednesday at the school to learn how to ensure the customer experience, oversee that the team members are fulfilling their jobs, and ensure that the team members are safe and enjoying their day. Tuesday we will practice our new customer service skills by meeting at Hidden Valley Park. The public is invited to our grand opening on Thursday at the school. 

LSL - Fairy Tale Magic

Arizona Basketball Camp

As a professional musician and event coordinator in the evenings, Brady has a lot of options to make something that is generally viewed as being "not really for deaf students" come alive in a way visually that most of the attendees haven't potentially experienced. Each day will be focused on a different element of music, with a variety of hands-on learning for the attendees, and time set aside for them to mess around on equipment and music stations.

Tail Ship Voyaging

Join Captain Stitch (Adam Billings) on USDB’s first ever Sail Training Voyage on the tail ship SSV Matthew Turner.  Students will fly to San Francisco and spend 4 days learning about sailing and seamanship.  They will gain self confidence on a challenging adventure, as they build teamwork skills and make new friends.  This camp is limited to 20 students on a first come first serve basis.  Students must have a letter of recommendation from a teacher or administrator. 

Ice Skating Lessons

Dance and Tumbling Camp
