You will:
learn about origami--its origins, its growth and popularity as a leisure activity, and how it has inspired artists today.
transform a two-dimensional flat plane into a three-dimensional form, first in paper, and then in clay/metal.
learn about geometry and apply geometric concepts.
learn about some differences between Chinese and Japanese cultures: Yellow Rat Bastards lesson.
apply paper folding techniques to clay/metal to create a bowl (ceramics)/bracelet (jewelry). Ceramics: You will create three mini-bowls to experiment with geometric shapes and to test glazes. You will refine your processes and create a full size bowl with a foot. Jewelry: You will create three fold-formed metal pieces to experiment with techniques, then you will create a bracelet based on a map.
