RUDD Foundation

Application Deadline: December 14, 2018

The Rudd Scholarship is a competitive, 4-year award designed to pay any remaining costs associated with tuition and fees, books and supplies, and room and board after accounting for all other grants, scholarships and financial awards. It can be applied only towards studies at either Emporia State University, Fort Hays State University, or Wichita State University for full-time students in pursuit of an undergraduate degree provided a student maintains the renewal criteria below. Selection is based on the aptitude to succeed at the collegiate level, graduate in 4 years, and be a productive and contributing member of their chosen profession, their community and society as a whole.

  • Have a 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Attend Fort Hays, Emporia State or Wichita State in the Fall 2019 semester as a full time student.
  • Have filled out the FAFSA and qualify for a Pell Grant.

GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program

Application Deadline: January 4, 2019

This national program awards scholarships to students who embody the characteristics of President Ronald Reagan. Recipients receive a $10,000 renewable scholarship. To be eligible for this award, applicants must:

  • demonstrate at school, at the workplace, and within the community the attributes of leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship;
  • demonstrate strong academic performance (minimum 3.0 grade point average/4.0 scale or equivalent);
  • be citizens of the United States of America;
  • be current high school seniors attending high school in the United States (students living on U.S. Armed Forces base and homeschooled students are also eligible); and
  • plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study toward a bachelors.

Winfield Kiwanis Club

Application Deadline: February 1, 2019

Three scholarships for $500 each will be presented. Every high school senior is eligible to apply. Scholarships are awarded primarily based on the applicant's community and/or school volunteer hours. Preference will be give to Key Club and former Builders Club members.

Truck Center Companies Scholarship

Application Deadline: Open

The Truck Center Companies scholarship is designed to provide opportunities for students to attend and graduate from accredited community and technical college programs in diesel or collision repair technology.A total of $5,000 will be paid directly to the diesel or collision repair technology program on behalf of the selected individual.

To be considered, students must:

  • Be accepted into an accredited diesel or collision repair technology program.
  • Complete and submit a TCC Scholarship Application in order to be considered.
  • Submit all applications a minimum of two months prior to the beginning of the diesel or collision repair technology.

KSDE Margaret Van Horn Scholarship

Application Deadline: January 19, 2018

This $300 scholarship is open to current Kansas High School, College and or Technical School students. Applicants must intend to continue his/her education in an education or business related program and be enrolled in a minimum of nine semester hours in an accredited post secondary facility in Kansas.

America's Farmers Grow Ag Leaders Scholarship

Application Deadline: February 1, 2018 Two Farmers endorsements due by February 8, 2018

Apply for a $1500 ag scholarship. Students must live in a rural community and plan to continue their education in an ag-related field of study. You do NOT have to be an FFA member to apply.

The Purpose Challenge Scholarship

Applications Due: February 1, 2018

If you write a college essay based on what you’ve learned from the Purpose Challenge toolkit, you can submit it for the chance to win money for college! Five winners will each receive $5,000, and one winner will receive a grand prize of $25,000, to help pay for college.

County Weed Directors Association of Kansas Scholarship

Application Due: February 1, 2018

The CWDAK will be sponsoring at least four $500 scholarships for the Fall semester. These scholarships will be awarded to high school Seniors majoring in Agriculture or a plant science related field at an accredited Kansas college. Applicatns must be a Kansas High School Senior with a Grade point average of 3.0 on a 4 pt. scale or higher and attending a Kansas college or university for the Fall semester and Major in agriculture or plant science field (preference to agronomy and plant science)

Elks Legacy Scholarship

Legacy Awards are $4,000 scholarships for children and grandchildren of Elks members. The Foundation will offer a total of 300 awards in the 2018 contest, an increase of 50 awards.

Who Should Apply: This $1,000 scholarship is available to all Kansas high school students who have distinguished themselves in the field of music and/or who will major or minor in music at an approved Kansas junior college, college, or university.

Kansas Association of Directors of Plant Facilities

Applications Deadline: February 15, 2018

($1,000) to 4 seniors graduating from a Kansas high school whose parent/legal guardian is engaged in a buildings and grounds, food service or transportation position at a K-12 or secondary education institution shall be eligible for this scholarship, who is a resident of Kansas and will attend a Kansas college or university.

Great Plains Association for College Admissions Counseling Scholarship

Application Deadline: February 15, 2018

3 at $1000 scholarships for students in Kansas, Nebraska, & Oklahoma (one from each state). Students must attend a high school / homeschool in Nebraska, Kansas, or Oklahoma, have an ACT Composite score of 21 or higher (or SAT equivalent), and have a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

GPACAC Paul Max Service Scholarship

Application Deadline: February 15, 2018

($1,000) scholarship for a graduating senior with a minimum 3.0 GPA from the GPACAC area (Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma). This is a one-time only award payable to the post-secondary educational institution of the recipient’s choice. The award is intended to help pay for tuition, fees and/or books.

- Students must be planning on attending a 2 or 4 year institution enrolling in the fall following their high school graduation

- Students should have a strong service record that has impacted their school, religious affiliation, and/or community

American Legion Legacy Scholarship

Application Deadline: March 1, 2018

To qualify and apply for The American Legion Legacy Scholarship, you must be able to answer YES to the following 3 questions.

  1. Are you currently a high school senior and/or accepted at or attending an institution of higher education?
  2. Is your institution of higher education a nonprofit and regionally-accredited institution? (If you are unsure, contact your institution's admission office. Regional accreditation applies to the whole school not a program.)
  3. Does at least one of the following statements apply to you?
    1. A legal parent of mine died while serving on active duty, U.S. military service on or after September 11, 2001. (Does not have to be a death out-of-country or in combat.)
    2. A legal parent of mine is a Post-9/11 veteran of the U.S. military, who has been given a disability rating of 50% or higher by the Veterans Administration.

Kansas Masons Scholarships

Application Deadline: March 15, 2018

General Scholarship ($1000)

The General Scholarship is available to all Kansas residents who elect to attend one of the seven identified universities/colleges: Emporia State University, Fort Hays State University, Kansas State University, Pittsburg State University, University of Kansas, Washburn University, Wichita State University.

Legacy Scholarship ($1,000)

The Legacy Scholarship is available, as the name suggests, to the legacy of a Kansas Mason. The student must be one of the following to be eligible: A Kansas Mason; Son or Daughter of a Kansas Mason; Member of DeMolay International for at least 2 years; Member of International Order of Rainbow Girls for at least 2 years; or Member of Job’s Daughter International for at least 2 years.

Cynthia Ruth Russell Scholarship ($5,000)

The Cynthia Ruth Russell Scholarship is available to all Kansas residents who have a medically approved disability.

Technical and Community College Scholarship ($500)

The Technical and Community College Scholarship is available to all Kansas residents who are seeking an Associates degree and attend an in-state technical or community college.

Winfield Rotary Club Scholarship

Application Deadline: March 15, 2018

Who Should Apply: Residents of Winfield or surrounding rural area at the time of application with a GPA of at least a 3.0, of good character. A demonstration of "need" will be considered but not necessarily be a determining factor in the selection.

Bill Hereford Foundation Scholarship

Application Deadline: March 23, 2018

Who Should Apply: Students who plan to study law, agriculture, animal science or vocational technology. Minimum GPA of 3.0. Applicants who are considered will have demonstrated leadership, community service and moral integrity.

Legacy Foundation Scholarships

Application Deadline: March 23, 2018

Legacy Community Scholarship (up to $1,500) is available to students from Cowley County who choose to continue their education beyond high school at either Cowley County Community College or Southwestern College.

Legacy Foundation Nichols-Broadhurst Scholarship sponsored by the Martin Luther King, Jr. Task Force ($1500) is available to any WHS graduating senior planning to attend any post-secondary school. Applicants are asked to demonstrate a commitment to cultural diversity in the Winfield area.

Legacy Foundation Marlyn & Blaine Harp Scholarship ($300) is open to all students interested in continuing education in science that have a 2.5 GPA or better. Award will be partially based on potential and community activity. Students must be planning to attend Southwestern College or Cowley County Community College.

Legacy Foundation Robert Warrender Scholarship ($1,000 renewable) (this scholarship is designed to help fund 4 years of study in music) is open to WHS students that have participated in music for 4 years and enroll in college full time. Scholarship decision is based on: music interest, college major and a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Crime Stoppers Scholarship

Application Deadline: March 23, 2018

This $300 scholarship is open to current Kansas High School seniors in good standing and on target to graduate. The application must include the attached scholarship form as well as a letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or Crime Stoppers member with knowledge of the character and accomplishments of the student. In addition, the students must include an original essay describing their future goals and objectives. A non-returnable photo is requested for media purposes.

Kansas Financial Scholars Essay Scholarship Contest

Application Deadline: March 27, 2018

Seniors if you have completed or will be completing Personal Finance at WHS then you will or will have completed the requirements for this scholarship. It is based on Everfi and the Stock Market Game you complete in Personal Finance. There is no GPA requirement for this scholarship.

Kansas Junior Golf Scholarship

Application Due: March 30, 2018

This scholarship awarded is to Kansas high school seniors who have participated in junior golf activities which include (but are not limited to) high school golf & events sponsored by the Kansas Golf Association. The money may be used at any college or university in Kansas, including 2-year colleges. This scholarship is renewable for up to 4 years.

Winfield Arts & Humanities Council Scholarships

Application Deadline: March 31, 2018

Art Scholarship: $500 scholarship for a Winfield area resident who intends to major in the study of visual arts, drama, or writing fulltime with at least a 2.8 GPA for the last two scholastic years.

Music Scholarship: $500 scholarships for a Winfield area resident who intends to major in music or dance fulltime and who has a least a 2.8 GPA for the last two scholastic years.

Sue Jean Covacevich Art Scholarship: $750 scholarship for a Winfield area resident who intends to study visual arts fulltime and has a 3.0 for Junior & Senior years in highschool.

Shelter Foundation Scholarship Program

William Newton Auxiliary Scholarship

Application Deadline: March 31, 2018

The WNH Auxiliary Scholarship is funded by various Auxiliary fundraising activities throughout the year. The scholarship is intended to assist young people with educations in healthcare and to meet the future needs for healthcare professionals in the area. The scholarship awards total $1,000 per student.

Applicant must be accepted into an accredited university or college program in the healthcare field; Applicant must be in good academic standing with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher; Applicant must maintain full time status, 12 hours or more per semester.

KACRAO Scholarship

The Kansas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (KACRAO) offers scholarships to reward students who have demonstrated quality leadership during their high school years. There are four $500 awards available each academic year which may be used at KACRAO member institutions. Students must have a 3.25 on a 4.0 scale.

Kansas County Clerks' and Election Officials' Association Scholarship

($500) this scholarship is being offered to students that intend to major in Business, Journalism, Political Science or Communications, are a high school senior with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

William Newton Healthcare Foundation - HOSA Scholarship

This scholarship provides up to $750 for each recipient. Applicants must have been accepted into an accredited or other approved allied healthcare program; have a 3.0 or higher GPA and a HOSA member.

Florence Stephens Scholarship

Application Deadline: April 12, 2019

Who Should Apply: Seniors with a minimum ACT score of 28 or comparable SAT score.

To apply submit the following: Copy of High School Transcript; A list of Honors and Activities you have received/been involved in while in high school; A 500 word essay outlining who you are, your college/career plans and your financial need for the scholarship. The essay is to be double spaced using traditional margin size and fonts.

Students receiving scholarship will receive $1250 annually for four years. Funding is subject to maintaining a minimum of a 3.0 GPA in a post secondary education institution. The funding will be distributed provided upon proof of enrollment in the fall semester.

Cowley County Farm Bureau Association

Applications Due: April 21, 2017

Applicants must be a member of the child of a member of the Cowley County Farm Bureau. Applications includes an essay.

Kansas Board of Regents Scholarships

Application Deadline: May 1, 2018

State Scholarship, Ethnic Minority Scholarship, Nursing Service Scholarship, Teacher Service Scholarship, Career Technical Education Program Scholarship, Various Military Service Scholarships.

Viking Booster Club Scholarship

Application Deadline: May 4, 2018 Two $500 scholarships are to be awarded to a senior in good standing, currently attending WHS. Must have participated in 2 activities and/or 2 sports for a minimum of 2 consecutive years, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and plan on attending college in the fall.

Soroptimist Almedia Greever Scholarship for Continuing Education

The Almedia Greever Scholarship is for women continuing their education and requires applicants to have previously completed 24 hours of college credit.

H.L. Snyder Medical Foundation Healthcare Scholarship

Applications Due: June 1, 2018 The H.L. Snyder Medical Foundation established a scholarship fund to assist Winfield student residents who are seeking education in the medical and bio-medical fields. Students must be a resident of Winfield for the last 3 years or a graduate of Winfield High School-USD 465 and enrolled full time (12 hours or more) per semester in an accredited university or college program in the healthcare field.

Horatio Alger National Career & Technical Scholarship

William Newton Healthcare Foundation - Work Commitment Scholarship

Application Deadline: June 18, 2018 for Fall Semester; November 19th for Spring Semester

This scholarship provides up to $1000 per semester. Applicants must be accepted into an accredited allied healthcare program, have a 3.0 GPA and maintain a 3.0 GPA, maintain 12 hours of more for undergraduate work; be eligible for employment at William Newton Hospital and sign a Work Commitment Agreement. Students are required to work at WNH for a term of six months for each semester scholarship was granted.

Who Should Apply: High School Seniors in the top 5% - 10% of their class; Score >28 on ACT; Household earnings less than $65,000 per year (for a typical family of four); May be eligible for free or reduced price lunch; May be first generation college attender.

AES Engineers Scholarship

AES Engineers Scholarship ($500) is available to high school seniors and all students attending a post-secondary educational facility. The PEO STAR Scholarship is a highly competitive, National, one- time $2500 scholarship recognizing graduating high school senior women who demonstrate outstanding leadership, academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and community service and who plan to pursue full or part-time post secondary education in the US or Canada beginning in the fall following their high school graduation. Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale to be eligible for the scholarship. The scholarship is a one time $2500 scholarship.

Based on the information below and academic excellence, 10 girls will be selected for interviews by PEO members. From this group each local PEO Chapter will recommend one woman for the scholarship.

How to Apply

  1. Write a cover letter with information about who you are and why you are seeking this scholarship.
  2. On a separate sheet of paper, provide the following information (typed)
    1. LEADERSHIP
      1. A list of elected or appointed leadership roles you have held, along with the school years you served in this position and describe your duties for these roles;
      2. Descriptions of ways you have been a leader even when not in a specific leadership position. This could be in a class, on the field or at a group function.
    2. EXTRACURRICULAR
      1. List your extracurricular activities you have participated in and the years with grade level.
    3. COMMUNITY SERVICE
      1. List community service activities you have participated in with grade levels and approximate amount of time each year.

Kansas Masons Essay Contest

Each year, the Masonic Public School Essay Contest donates $12,000 to deserving high school Junior & Senior students. $4,000 is awarded for the best essay.

Prudential Spirit of Community Award

Application Deadline: November 6, 2018

Since 1996 this award has recognized young people for outstanding volunteer service. Local Honorees receive a certificate of achievement, State Honorees receive $1000, an engraved silver medallion and an all expense paid trip to Washington DC. National Honorees receive an additional $5000 award.

Students that have engaged in volunteerism from September 1, 2017 - present are eligible to apply.

Soroptimist Live Your Dream Award

The Live Your Dream Awards are all about helping women who have faced obstacles on the path to living their dreams.

Women are eligible to apply for this award that:

  • Provides the primary financial support for yourself and your dependents. Dependents can include children, spouse, partner, siblings and/or parents.
  • Has financial need.
  • Is enrolled in or has been accepted to a vocational/skills training program or an undergraduate degree program.
  • Is motivated to achieve your education and career goals
