Extended Learning Program 

 

What Is the Extended Learning Program?

The Extended Learning Program is a resource-setting program for identified gifted special education students within the Andover, Kansas school district #385. Each student has an individual educational plan. There is a classroom for each elementary site. Students are placed in this program based on testing by a licensed school psychologist for their academic and cognitive scores set by the Andover School District.

 

What Do the Students Do During ELP Services?

Students earn points for completing weekly obligations.  These points will be used for special auctions held throughout the year. Students spend time in the ELP classroom working on projects which usually include research, practice using logical, creative thinking and problem solving skills.  They work both independently and cooperatively as they complete Think Lab cards and solve Stories With Holes.

 

How is ELP Taught?

 

​ELP is taught through Project Based Learning. This is a shift from the teacher centered model of teaching to the student centered model of learning. PBL is activity based and structured around the students taking responsibility for their own learning.  The following is a list of possible activities that identified students may be asked to participate in:

 

What Supplies are Needed for ELP Classes?

· 4 Pencils

· 1 box tissues

· 1 Clear Plastic Shoebox with Lid to hold Supplies

· 1 Box Crayola Colored Pencils

· 1 Box Crayola Markers

· 1  Box Crayola Crayons

· 1 Set of Simple Headphones to be Stored in the ELP Classroom
