It was November 5th, at 9pm. Travis Scott started his concert at the Astroworld Festival. It started off well, but soon it turned into chaos. People with the not-so lucky front seats were being shoved, suffocated, and trampled into the barriers up front. People started to run out of the area, knocking over gates, and trampling others. There were 8 people killed and over 300 injured. The people killed were 14-27 at age. The investigation is still ongoing. The blame is for now on Travis Scott.
Some people said that the performance seemed more like a sacrificial thing. People were climbing on the stage telling them to stop the show, but it wouldn't stop until an hour later, around 10pm. Some others say that on one of his album covers, it had 8 people, so they said “It would be a sign”.
In conclusion, the investigation will be going on for a while, days, weeks, even months.
Osawatomie Middle School is doing a spirit week from November 8th from November 12th. All Oms students are expected to dress up to show their pride for the school. We are doing a spirit week this week because we had two home games Monday November 8th and we have many more to come this week. The school Ambassadors in eighth grade told us that they all took turns brainstorming ideas to come up with the days for spirit week.
Monday was red day, Tuesday was crazy sock day, Wednesday was your favorite sports team day, Thursday was American/ red, white and blue day to show our appreciation for Veterans day, and Friday was Hippie/ Tie dye day.
Every morning at jump start they have a wheel that has teacher 1 through 6 on it and you stand next to a teacher and the wheel lands on the teacher you're with you get a prize at lunch time. There were a lot of people that had participated in the spirit week.
I think that it is fun and cool how we have jump start everyday with different ways to win prizes.
Osawatomie Middle school is having a spirit week. The spirit week is November 8th - November 13th. OMS is having spirit week because of the sports activities. For spirit week OMS students and staff are dressing up for spirit week. Osawatomie Middle School is having spirit week because of the sports activities like Wrestling and Girls Basketball that are on at OMS.
For spirit week at OMS the staff and students are dressing up. Monday is red day, Tuesday is crazy sock day, Wednesday is favorite sports team day, Thursday is red, white, and blue day for veterans day, and Friday is Hippie\ tie dye day. For spirit week you can also wear red every day for spirit week due to sports. OMS decided to use these things to dress up for spirit week when the ambassadors had their meeting over spirit week they gave ideas then decided which ones to use.
Everyday at jumpstart in the morning OMS does something called wheel of decide and there are 6 OMS staff on the gym floor. Each teacher is numbered 1-6 and if your teacher you go to numbers gets picked, you get a ticket and the student takes it to lunch and gets a prize. I think that we should have more spirit weeks. I think students at OMS enjoy spirit week. I think it's fun to dress up and look silly and nobody judges you because there are other people doing it.
Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors had a great game against the Atlnata Hawks on Monday November 8th. The score to the game was 123-117 with a Warriors victory. They also got to finish that game so that they could continue their very nice start to the season. This is the game where the 33 year old Steph Curry made NBA history.
Steph Curry made a whopping 50 points and 10 assists in the game. With three blocks and a steal he led his team to a 15 point lead in the second quarter. He got his team to a 9-1 record in the new season. This amazing 50 point game was great, though it was only his tenth. He became the oldest person to score 50 points with 10 assists while only being 33 years old. Curry hit 9-19 of his 3 pointers. He also hit all of his 13 free throws. He got the Warriors their 5th consecutive win in a row.
This game will help Steph Curry get into the hall of fame. This season will also help determine who is the greatest three point shooter of all time. This is an awesome way to set a record. These games and seasons will be a fun season to watch.
On July 22, a Las Vegas woman named Yean Sia went to Walmart with her two pugs. But what she didn't know is that it would lead to death for her dogs and a prison sentence.
Yean left her 2 pugs, Howie and Zackary, in a hot car for 49 minutes. It was 96 degrees outside. On a 100 degree day, it only takes 15 mins for a car to heat up to 140 degrees. A nearby pedestrian saw these pugs and offered them water trhough the cracked window, but they where just to tired to get up. The pedestrian then called the cops and the pugs where carried to an air-conditioned police cruiser. According to a Police report “upon arrival, Zackary had many seizures and was euthanized." Yean Sia was charged with three counts of willful malicious torture of an animal.
Can you believe it? The 7th grade varsity volleyball team is on a good wining streak! At first, the start of the season, they lost their first two games, but they picked it up and started winning.
They beat every team at the tournament at Central Heights. They also recently beat Iola, Prairie View, and Sante Fe Trail. Every set, they have won and haven't lost since their first two games. After the first two defeats, they got back on there feet and started winning. They have been talking together, getting along, and having good attitudes. They have been having good serves, nice passes, and great teamwork.
The players are Mckinlee Doherty, Jasmine Bratton, Becca Meyer, Kaylee Johns, Gracie Fanning, Payton Wallace, Jackie Mincher, and Paige Raymond. These are the girls that are making this all happen. Jackie Mincher has been playing for JV and Varsity! She has been surviving for the varsity and is doing very good as a team player.
Ms. Dunn and Austin Mersman have been hyping them up so much. Austin is a great manager and Ms.Dunn is a great coach. Let's keep the great attitudes and keep getting along. Good job girls keep it up! Keep that winning streak and bring it all you got!
OMS students who got their permission slips signed are selling chocolate bars! They started on Wednesday September 15 and are ending on September 29. They can sell to friends, family, and other people they know. They are selling chocolate bars to raise money for our school.
All OMS students got their permission slips on Monday, September 13, and they had to take them home and get their parents to sign them. They started a few days later. There are awesome prizes that you can earn for selling a certain amount of chocolate. Some prizes include 30 minutes in a video game bus, a trip to GEHA at Arrowhead stadium, and even the chance to win money! Some kids have already sold more than 5 boxes!
Another thing is that they can earn these little mini-figure type things called Coops. Coops are these little animals, people can get golden ones and you can earn money for those. They can also get a golden ticket in their boxes which they can also earn money or cool prizes from it.
In conclusion, all OMS students who have their permission slips signed are able to sell chocolate. A lot of students are having a lot of fun doing this and they could learn business and responsibility skills! All of the profits go to our school so doing this will definitely help our school do fun things!
2020-2021 Stories
There is a new plane in the sky. The Boeing 777x is scheduled to enter service in 2021 or 2022. It is the biggest twin engine plane in the world. It can carry 426 passengers. It had its maiden flight, or test flight, on January 25, 2020. It can fly farther than the A380 with a full payload. It also has new super sized overhead bins. It is the plane of the century. It will cost about 410.2 million dollars to make.
The engines are the most advanced, safe and efficient in the world. It is in the final stage of testing. The engines are supplied by GE aviation. They can fly up to 8,730 miles. Boeing is constructing a new building to allow for wing construction for the 777x. The 777x has a wing span of 235 feet.
It also has a wide body design and a comfortable cabin with large windows, new lights and new architecture. It will have new massive bins that can carry more bags overhead than ever. It has two classes and both are very nice and comfortable.
The 777x has a new composite wing design. It has a larger wingspan and is more aerodynamic. The longer wingspan reduces fuel cost and allows it to fly farther. It even has folding wing tips to allow it to operate at more airports than ever.
It has already been bought by 8 world class airlines. All Nippon Airways, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Etihad airways, Lufthansa, Qatar air and Singapore airlines. This plane is the future of flying. It is equipped with every safety feature and new technology. It is the way to fly. It is the best in every way possible. The 777x is the airline industry's ticket to the future.
The 777x is manufactured by Boeing. Boeing is the manufacturer of the 737, 747, 767,787 and the 777 as well as a lot of smaller aircraft. They built the best plains in the sky. Fun fact: the 747 idea came to life on an Alaskan fishing trip when Pan AM wanted a massive passenger plane. But boing was already working on a concord like plane. So the 747 was said to be a cargo plane. The 747 was supposed to be a one decker cargo plane but they did not know where to put the cockpit. So they made it on top and the hump was born. Southwest only flies 737 because if they need to fix a plane it's easy to because they have parts everywhere and only 737 parts. So it's cheaper and easy.
Have you ever wondered what to do when you enter a game of Among Us? If you haven't played it yet it's basically like a murder mystery (such as Clue). Many people use different methods during games but we are going to give you our personal favorites. This is how you can win among us as an imposter and as a crewmate.
As an imposter it's your job to get rid of and sabotage the crewmates. A good imposter gets rid of the crewmates with the vents and by turning off the lights. Find the best place for a hidden kill and do the best you can to have an alibi. Check the amount of tasks and if the common tasks are turned on at the beginning of the game. Memorize tasks and where they are our you could be 'sus' (suspicious). Try your best to not get ejected.
As a crewmate your job is to survive the imposter (weather it be 1, 2 or 3 of them). The best thing to do is never go to electrical(for skeld) without a group of about 5 as you could be stuck with 2 imposters. If you trust someone you can go in there with them too. Do your tasks as quickly as you can and try and figure out who the imposter is/imposters are. As long as you have solid evidence you wont get ejected. Make sure you don't get caught near a body or you will get ejected.
So basically, if you’re an imposter you need to be sneaky and tactical in the way you take out the crewmates. The crewmates need to be observant and smart. This is a very solid way to win as we’ve used these strategies. They have worked about 99% of the time (as long as you don't get imposter back to back).
THINGS TO REMEMBER:
Don't always believe someone when they say “(color) is sus”. Make sure they have proof.
Make sure to do the common tasks(if they are on) IE: Card Swipe(Skeld and Polus), Wires(all maps), ID Code(Mira HQ, The AirShip [Coming soon]), Keys(Polus) And Scan Pass(Polus)
There is a free play mode to see all actual tasks on each map. Use this to not get caught as an imposter(or to catch the imposter[s])
You can still help your crewmates beyond the grave, do your tasks to help get a task win.
The 3 rules everyone follows are don’t use hacks, don’t vote on 7 people (unless you are sure that you know who the imposter is), and don't cheat using a call.
Here's a list of visual tasks(things to make you not 'sus'):Med bay/submit scan(Skeld, Mira HQ, and Polus[we don't know if it will be in the Airship]), Trash(visual only in Skeld), Asteroids(Polus and Skeld) and Prime Shields(visual only in Skeld).
*WRITTEN AS AN UPDATE ON THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.*
The presidents are fighting for the election. Biden is winning and he is fighting Trump to win president. The score is Biden: 306, Trump: 232. Trump is Republican and Biden is Democratic. Iran is trying to shoot a nuke at the U.S.
Joe Biden won all of the above: Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Georgia, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Hawaii, New Jersey.
Donald Trump is winning all of the above: Montana, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina.
Trump supporters stormed the capital / White House. Trump and Biden both got to give a speech. Trump's speech was a convincing speech. Trump convinced his supporters to raid the capital. We are dividing our country. We need to join together and stop this before we can’t. People have two ideas, one the people are getting mad because they think Biden cheated. (Meaning Trump supporters). The Biden supporters are mad because the trump supporters are trying to keep Biden out of office.
Three voting presses have failed so we don’t know how many votes Trump and Biden (the people fighting for office) had for the election. There was a miss count. So we have no idea who has won the election yet so we just have to hope they pick the right person.
On Monday, January 11th, Democratic leaders made a big announcement on which they plan to impeach President Donald Trump. The move comes after a violent mod loyal to Trump stormed the US capitol. In Washington DC on January 6th, the announcement charges Trump with “ Incitement of insurrection” in the attack last week. Incitement is encouraging someone to engage in unlawful behavior. An insurrection is a violent uprising against the government.
On January 6th, hundreds of violent protesters with trump flags and clothing broke into the capitol. Lawmakers and congressional staff had to evacuate out of the capitol building. The president told his supporters to protest the electoral vote. The electoral vote count confirmed president-elect Joe Biden’s win. The house is one of the federal lawmaking bodies in the U.S. The Senate is the other.
Trump had less than two weeks left in the office. Biden will be sworn in on January 20th. Still, there have been discussions about removing Trump from office. The discussions have been happening in congress. They have also been happening in the white house.
The resolution says: “ Thus incited by president trump” members of the mob “unfairly accused and killed law enforcement personnel". They “Menaced members of congress, The Vice President, and Congressional personnel,” and they “ engaged in other violent, deadly, destructive, and seditious acts”.
At a typical basketball game you have your parents and friends and the stands are normally full. But this year we have a certain amount of people that can come to basketball games. Each player gets four tickets to get four people that you want to watch you play.
After December 1st there will be no spectators at any of the basketball games or school group events. KSHSAA had a meeting about if they were going to let people come to our game but they decided against it at the end of our season. A lot of parents are not very happy about not being able to go to the games anymore.
They decided to do this because they want everyone to be safe. The cases are getting higher in our state so they want us to still be able to play but just not as many people so the players don't get the virus. Basketball players think that the parents should be able to have the option to take a risk.
One of the basketball players said that she thinks it is dumb and that they should just let us have our parents be adle to come to our games. She said that she did not like it and would rather have her parents come to watch her play.
During the pandemic, many people resort to dogs to protect them and comfort them. Here is how puppies are a powerful and positive help right now in the middle of a pandemic:
⅔ reported feeling happy while working at home because they have pets there to comfort them, and 54% feels less anxious when they have the dogs with them.
Dogs are the primary thing to go when you are stressed or depressed.
Most pet owners go straight to their animals for help to just get comfort.
Simply petting a dog or just talking about something out loud to them can help because they can't say anything back to hurt you.
Since this pandemic has started people have been going to their pets to relieve stress and anxiety.
The years of the Gen Z's are 1997-2012 so that means they are 8-23 (age-wise). They call "Gen Z" the demographic cohort succeeding Millennials and preceding Generation Alpha. Some say that Gen Z’s are the most educated generation.
This late summer, there was quite a bit of protesting. A lot of the protesting was done by the generation called Gen Z. Gen Z is the generation that said they can love who they want (LGBTQ+). During the protesting, Gen Z is showing that they will fight for what they believe.
Gen Z’s are very powerful in many ways. For example, Gen Z's made Trump so scared that he hid in a bunker. Gen Z’s are showing people what teamwork truly means when they protest in big groups. In some ways, Gen Z is a good powerful help we need but, at the same time, they are not as productive.
When people say Gen Z’s are not productive they aren’t lying. Gen Z’s usually have people do stuff for them for example, their parents doing their laundry for them. They would rather sit in their house and make TikToks than clean their room. At the same time, they sit on their electronics all day and don’t do anything.
In conclusion, Gen Z’s can be very powerful but don’t let them fool you. What this really means is that they can be very productive but lazy at the same time.
The Australian Bushfires are a horrible event that is happening right now. They have been burning since February. They have been terrorizing Australians ever since. These Fires have killed 28 people and have destroyed over 3,000 homes and have affected over a billion animals. The climate has also provided ample amounts of fuel for the Fires to spread.
The fires have started in various ways including, lightning, some by human actions, some by climate. The fires will and have mainly spread by brisk winds. Now all fires in South Wales have been extinguished. All Victoria fires have been contained. The last fire of the season occurred in Lake Clifton in Western Australia.
On September 11, 2001, on a beautiful New York morning, everyone was minding their business. That is, until 8:42 a.m when flight 93 crashed. This plane was going to crash into the white house, but the passage to action had saved the white house causing the plane to crash in a field not far from the Pitt State; just outside of the country.
In New York, at 8:45 a.m., the Boeing 737 hit the North Twin Tower causing 20,000 gallons of fuel to explode. At 9:03 a.m., air traffic controllers in New York witnessed the Boeing 175 hit the South Tower, causing fear to all people. At 9:37 a.m., the pentagon got hit with America Airline flight 77 flew through the pentagon, killing 125 people plus 64 on the plane.
At 9:59 a.m., the South Tower collapsed less than an hour after being hit. The North Tower collapsed at 10:28 a.m., causing massive damage to the rest of the buildings. After the attack they found 5,992 people dead and 25,000 injured.
Till this day on September 11th, everyone knows the attack of the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and the attack of the crash site.
One current event that is going on in our lives are the current protest. The protests that are going around the world are destroying buildings and towns. Protests in the world are going across the nation and putting people in hospitals. The protests are burning buildings down and anything it can. The protest can push through anything that is in the way of the protest.
The people who are trying to stop it are getting tired of it and are getting injured. And different protests are about different things. Anything or anyone can start powerful protests. For example, the BLM (Black Lives Matter) protest put a bunch of people in the hospital. This protest was about segregation and racism. The whole point of that protest was to get rid segregation and people to stop being mean to them.
Somewhere in the U.S is a protest going on that just hit California. At every protest there are about 10 deaths and some of them are towards one person or many people. A lot of protest cops from around the area near the protest help. Anyone can help with a protest on one side or another. Protester’s will do anything before they stop or get what they want.
The Black Lives Matter (BLM) protest has affected so many people and is unfair to some. Most people are questioning “why can't everyone get along”, “why can't the white people show respect to the black people” or “why is everyone being unfair to each other”?
The Black Lives Matter protest is affecting people. It's affecting some people because they think it's unfair, or people are wondering "why do black lives matter but the white live don't". This people is causing some to be mean to one other. On the other side, the point being made with this protest is that all lives do matter. However, this protest is focusing on how those black lives matter to everyone.
Some people think that racism is alive. People need to have hope for equality because in the end, we should get along and solve issues that comes up. Life isn't going to give you a perfect world where everyone gets along but we can do our best and try and fix it so please be kind and start working together.
LGBT supporters feel a mix of emotions at marches held across the country. Rainbow flags waved proudly over the nation’s capital and dozens of U.S. cities on Sunday, September 13th.
People in the march are angry because they can’t really show their true selves without being judged by someone. There were people being killed because they are LGBT or support LGBT.
There were two 15 years old girls who were holding hands and saying “Make America Gay Again.” In Hollywood some carrying rainbow flags or signs saying “Love Trumps Hate” speakers included Mayor Eric Garcetti, U.S. Representatives Adam Schiff, Maxine Waters and RuPaul, host of “RuPaul’s Drag Race”
She noted that Trump, breaking from the practice of Barack Obama, has declined to issue a proclamation in honor of Pride Month. The Trump administration has also deleted questions from federal government surveys that ask about a person's sexual orientation, she said. The concern is that LGBT people aren't being counted and their concerns aren't being recognized by the government. Let’s all try to be positive about this.
Here in Osawatomie they are letting kids do cheer and sports.
At OMS, cheer is during 9th hour at then end of the day. Right now most of the cheerleaders are also volleyball players. This means that they do not get to cheer at a lot of games because volleyball and football games overlap.
Another thing is that they do not get to cheer right now even if the games were not overlapped because most of the football boys have to be quarantined due to the last game that they played. You are probably wondering what happened last game. Well, the last team they played had a kid on their team that did not know that they had COVID-19. Due to this, most of the boys came in contact with the player causing the OMS team to quarantine.
Head OMS football coach, Ethan Schillig, says, “it will delay the game season but also give them more time to strategize.” At first he was sad that they had to miss two full weeks of the season, but then he thought that everyone was doing pretty good regarding the quarantining rule.
A lot of the cheerleaders are really hoping that they get to stay in school and not go online. If they do stay in school then they will get to cheer for basketball season as well as the remainder of football season. So, OMS students should social distance and try their best to stay in school.
So, that is what cheer at OMS is all about. GO BIG RED!
Hi,my name is Jules and I'm going to tell you about the OMS volleyball team and how they are practicing with the Covid-19 rules and guidelines.
Volleyball started right before school began with practices after school hours. How they run practice is by grouping the team into JV and Varsity teams. The JV group from the 7th grade girls and JV group from the 8th grade girls go to the Osawatomie City Hall to practice. OMS does that so they have some more room to socially distance and get better practice. This also helps limit the number of people they are around. Also, at school they have to wear masks if they are close to each other or eating have to stay 6 feet. If they don't one person can get sick then ALL volleyball girls are out for the rest of the season. That's why they take it really seriously.
Right when they get to practice, they do some stretches, a big workout, and a big run. Once that is over they split up and start doing bumps and passes. They get a partner then do about 10 hits each then switch. After that they get to do butterfly drills (which is their favorite drill). Once they have got to 10 points during the butterfly drill, they get into volleyball positions and the OMS coach hits them to the girls where they have to get it to the setter so she can set it to one of the top row girls so they can hit it over. They all switch out so every girl gets to play a new position in volleyball.
They always practice spiking before their daily scrimmage so they can have a good and ready arm. Towards the end of practices, both varsity scrimmages while JV scrimmages int he other gym. The first scrimmage began shaky for everyone, but the team has shaked off their nerves and have been kicking butt!
That is the routine of the OMS volleyball team and how they practice. Thanks for reading!
How are OMS kids dealing with school online? OMS students that are online say that it is easy and hard. Some kids get to come to school. Some kids have to stay at home. Kids like this change that have been made and some kids don't like them.
At some schools, they are only doing online. That is affecting kids' parents as they do their work too. Some schools are doing online or in school; they are allowed to choose what they want to do at these schools. Most of the schools that are allowing people to come to school, very little of their students are online. Most of their students come to school and learn in person.
People online like that it is nicer and they stay more focused at home when they have more room. They like how they can be anywhere in the house and work at all times comfortably. They like how easy it is to get on video chat and talk. People at school like how they can work in a team while staying socially distanced. They like being in person and not staring at a screen all day.
At school you can do fun games with other people. You can hang out with your friends at school. At home, you don't get to interact with your friends. You can hang out with your animal when you are doing online school. People at school can get help from teachers easier than people online. If Covid-19 did not happen, kids would have to come to school. It would be easier if Covid-19 did not effect the schools and countries.
It is hard and easy to do school online. Kids like how they can pick to do school online or offline. Which one would you pick: online or off line? Would you want to be with your friends or at home with your pet or siblings. Would it be easier to do school online for you? Would it be easier to go to school in person?
Covid-19 has affected so many people in so many different ways. Some people are dying from this disaster.
Some families are losing the people they love. People are scared of dying, and losing someone because of this disease.
Kids are missing school so they are missing education, they wouldn’t know as much knowledge as they should. Adults are missing work. Since they are missing so much work, they end up losing their jobs. If they don’t have jobs, they can’t make money to pay for food and bills.
People are getting bored and angry because they can’t communicate with other people. Kids need to socialize with others. Good social skills could make the kids' future brighter. When the kids become adults, they wouldn’t know how to act or what to say.
These examples should prove that Covid-19 is another terrible thing that’s happened to the world, you should follow the rules to keep you and everybody else safe.
Hi, I’m Gage and I love TikTok. Personally, I’m kinda sad that TikTok is soon getting banned. Now, I will share why TikTok is getting banned.
The United States is planning to ban the app TikTok on the 15th of September. Unless an American company (like Microsoft or Oracle) buys it, according to President Trump.
First, on June 29th, India banned TikTok along with 54 other Chinese apps. India officially said it was banning the app because of security concerns. Specifically, it said the app was a threat to India's authority and integrity. Some also suggested that security concerns are the drive for banning TikTok.
If America bought the app it would be a HUGE benefit. It would mean India would probably unban the app, along with many other countries.
I personally hope TikTok does get bought by Microsoft or Oracle.
Denver, CO recently had a massive snow storm that hit many people.
Denver has gotten a lot of snow this past week. In fact, they got 8 inches of snow. The past few days it was 101 degrees then next, it was 93 degrees. Then when it snowed the next day, it was 35 degrees. The temperature drop was huge.
Denver has been affected by this a lot and is probably hard for them. There have been people sliding their cars off the road . It's hard to get anywhere. On September 10th, the temperature was 43 degrees. This past week marks their first snow storm this year (2020). They normally don't get snow this early.
Life is a current event because everything that happens in it is part of your life. A current event shows your mistakes, it shows your lies and truths. It even shows your best and worst times in your life. Life is always a current event everyday; it is always full of surprises.
What I am trying to say is that if you are walking down the street right now, it is a current event. It might not seem like it is, but it is. It is like this when you wake up in the morning; current event. You go to school; current event. You play tag with your friends; that is a current event. At all times you are living a current event: being born learning how to walk, learning math, science, how to spell, how to talk, how to play sports.
The term "current event" means something happening right now. Whatever you are doing now in life is a current event. What you can learn is to be more mature, more respectful, more patient, not to cuss at adults, not to make fun of people not to get mad at small things and to be grateful.
