The Ottawa Alternative School – This is a program designed for grades 6-8 and placement is made by administrative personnel only.
The purpose of the USD290 Alternative School is:
● Provide students with a structured and distraction free environment in which to learn.
● Develop appropriate social skills.
● Continue instruction when behaviors are limiting options.
● Continue instruction to those students who have become ineligible to attend Ottawa Middle School due to exceeding the 20 point limit as outlined in the behavioral policy.
The Learning Environment at the Ottawa Alternative School:
● Students will remain enrolled in their original core courses with curriculum being driven by a certified instructor. Individual plans are created for students based on their needs from the feedback provided by parents, school, and administration.
● Teachers at alternative school will provide accommodations and modifications if needed with support from teaching and special education staff.
● Students will work through a social skills curriculum that is aligned with the district’s MTSS behavior process.
● For students working through a long term suspension, their grades and progress will fall under the same guidelines as the Ottawa Virtual Learning Program.
