What is your role? I teach Stagecraft and Real World Communications. I am the Technical Theatre Director, so I work with the tech crew on our musicals. I am also one of the assistant coaches for Forensics and Speech.
What is your favorite book? My favorite book is Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery, but I love the entire series. I've read the whole series four times and I've taken something new away from it with each reread.
What is your favorite genre? I've really been enjoying classical literature lately! It allows me to explore several genres and connect with cultural references (I love visiting places that are mentioned in books). I also enjoy reading scripts. I'll read just about anything that is recommended to me regardless of genre. I like anything with relatable characters and a distinct writing style.
Do you prefer physical, audio, or ebooks? I prefer physical books, although I like ebooks for annotations or looking up new words. I have to limit how many books I buy from the Literary Cat.
Who inspired your love of reading? My parents and grandparents always encouraged me to read and try new genres. Growing up, I loved doing summer reading challenges with my local library and it incentivized reading in a fun way.
What's a random fact about you? I'm new to PHS and Pittsburg, so I want all the recommendations for restaurants and fun things to do that I can get! I love exploring new places.

What book are you reading right now? Laws of Human Nature by Robert Greene
What is your favorite book? Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling
What is your favorite genre? Science Fiction because I like to read about space and anything out of this world.
Who inspired your love of reading? My dad told me that if I read the first Harry Potter then I would get a full thing of donuts, and then I kept on reading after that.
What is a random fact about you? I’ve been to Thailand. My favorite part was the different animals they had there, like the water monitor lizards.

What book is she reading right now? A Tree Grows In Brooklyn by Betty Smith
How did she develop a love of reading? I was surprised to learn that I was the one who helped Mrs. Laushman love to read again a few years ago just by talking about the books that I was reading. Before that, she hadn't really read for pleasure for many years, and now she reads every day.
Does she prefer a physical book, audiobook, or Kindle? Mrs. Laushman reads on a Kindle Scribe, which she enjoys because of the cool reading features like being able to remind you about the context of each of the characters, adjust the size of the font, give you the definitions and track the words you aren't familiar with, and allow you to take notes.
Who is her favorite author? Right now, she loves Ann Patchett, author of Whistler, Tom Lake, and several others. She loves the way Patchett writes her characters so vividly, some of whom remind her of people she knows, and likes to watch Patchett's videos she posts from her bookstore in Nashville, Parnassus Books.
What are some of her favorite books? One of her favorite books is Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. One of her favorite genres is historical fiction because she likes learning about history, but she also loves a good love story. Some of her favorite books from the summer are Calamity Club by Kathryn Stockett and Whistler by Ann Patchett.
If you want a quiet place to study, you can sign up to come to the library's study room any day Tuesday-Friday. Make sure that you sign up for the day that you want BEFORE 9 AM on that day, and that you are not called into another study hall.

Library Advisory Council
The Library Advisory Council will be meeting on the 4th Tuesday of every month. The purpose will be to discuss new books that students would like to order, ideas for reading incentives, new programming you would like to see, and any other ideas that would make the library more accommodating and inviting for students. If you want to be part of this council, please email Mrs. Rountree at erountree@usd250.org
We will have a new cozy craft each month in the library, and cozy craft day will be on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month. You can come to one or to both! Make sure that you sign up for the Thursday that you want BEFORE 9 AM on that day, and that you are not called into another study hall.
Do you want to be part of TEDxPittsburg High Youth? Come to study hall in the library on the 1st and/or 3rd Friday of each month to develop a TEDx speech that you can present in April! Make sure that you sign up for the Friday that you want BEFORE 9 AM on that day, and that you are not called into another study hall.
Do you want to participate in National History Day in February? Come to study hall in the library on the 2nd and/or 4th Friday or each month to develop a National History Day project with Mrs. Rountree and Mrs. Shrader! Make sure that you sign up for the Friday that you want BEFORE 9 AM on that day, and that you are not called into another study hall.
