Architecture + Feminism

Architecture + Feminism

Place: 2426 W. Washington Blvd., Los Angeles

Date: March 31st

Time: 2P-6P

Together we'll be reworking the written records of the encyclopedia paying particular attention to the architecture of Los Angeles through the ways it has been continuously transformed, gendered and shaped. In addition to including "other" architects (from Helen Liu Fong to Norma Merrick Sklarek), we'll also explore the architectural culture of gender in Los Angeles in broader ways. From pioneering patrons (like Lilian Disney and Ann Bergren) to cunning theorists (too many to name) to experimental publications (like the Ladder and ONE) and defiant spaces (like the Woman's Building, Jewel's Catch One, the Silver Platter, and the Hattie McDaniel's Residence), we will work to document and improve content on gender and the built environment.

This event is part of Art+Feminism, an international campaign to improve content on trans & cis women, and non-binary folks and the arts on Wikipedia, and to encourage trans & cis women, and non-binary folks to participate on the online encyclopedia. A response to the well-known gender gap on Wikipedia, events have taken place at institutions such as The Museum of Modern Art, New York; Tate, London; Yale University, New Haven; McGill University, Montreal; Archives Nationales, Paris; and many more. And,

Now, we are bringing the event to 2426ww, a space in Los Angeles.
