Duke Kahanamoku was a legendary surfer and swimmer from Honolulu, Hawaii. Duke showed incredible talent early on in his professional career; he beat the existing world records in 100 yards freestyle swimming by 4.6 seconds in his first race in Honolulu Harbor. He continued to win six gold medals in swimming over four Olympic Games spanning two decades. After stepping down from the Olympic arena, Duke traveled internationally to give swimming and surfing exhibitions, which helped popularize surfing as a modern sport. Apart from his numerous athletic achievements, Duke served as the sheriff of Honolulu for 13 consecutive terms. He also starred in 30 Hollywood movies while he was living in Southern California.
