Airplanes and Rockets

What is Aerospace Engineer?

Aerospace engineers create machines, from airplanes that weigh over a half a million pounds to spacecraft that travel over 17,000 miles an hour. They design, develop, and test aircraft, spacecraft, and missiles and supervise the manufacture of these products.

Building Rocket

For the rocket, we have to build a rocket that can be successfully launch, disintegrate in the air, and land safely with a parachute. The building of the body of the rocket was rather easy, and we managed to finish the body part quickly. However, the head part is challenging, since we have to sand a wood cylinder to a cone shape. During the sanding process, we finally decided to use a bullet shape.

Building Drone

The final drone is different from any models, because it fell apart after every test, so i reinforced the main structure. Now main structure is very strong and i only have to fix the arm.

String test

The aim of the string test is to test the stability of the rocket structure. If the rocket wobble during the test, then the centre of gravity is not above the centre of pressure. We successfully passed the test.

Rocket launching

The rocket launched successfully, disintegrated in the air with the parachute popped out. However, our parachute does not slow the acceleration of the rocket while falling, because rocket did not fly high enough to be able to fall long enough to deploy successfully.

Plane testing

The plane successfully flew, although the tail got stuck and it took a large left turn
