First grade team
Welcome to first grade! It is our goal that each child will learn, grow, and develop. First grade is a tremendous year of growth. Our students learn so much academically but also grow socially and emotionally. Your child will develop in the areas of independence and responsibility.
The main academic focus in first grade is language arts (reading) and math skills. Science, Social Studies, Physical Education, Art, Italian language and Music round out our curriculum.
Strong parents and community support enhances the quality of education at Union Ridge. We hope you will visit the school often. Please come meet us, talk to us, join the PTA, and volunteer. We know that your involvement, combined with the efforts of our talented faculty, will make this school year a rich and rewarding year for your child.

A little about us
Mrs. Duffy
My name is Mary Duffy and this is my 26th year at Union Ridge School. I am excited to have this opportunity to learn and grow with you and your child this year! I have lived in this community for over 30 years. I am a mother of 3 grown children and grandmother of 2. Our class name is the Blackhawks and our class theme is teamwork and sports.

Mrs. Maciuba
My name is Kathleen Maciuba and I have been at Union Ridge School for 30 years. I was lucky to start off as a teaching assistant in kindergarten. I have also taught preschool, kindergarten, and first grade. The years have gone by swiftly, the school staff and trends have changed, but my love for this school and community remain the same. I believe that teachers and parents need to work together and to nurture and help a child grow.
Outside of school, I have a passion for animal rescue and have volunteered many years with different rescue groups. As you know, my classroom is known for its dog décor! I also have quite the collection of houseplants.

My name is Alissa Warchol and this is my first year teaching at Union Ridge School. I attended Union Ridge as a preschool student many years ago and am so thankful to be back and apart of this wonderful community. I am very excited to work with the first graders and their families this year!
