Research Group
Upstream Fluids Research Group (UFRG) is an integral part of Deysarkar Centre of Excellence in Petroleum Engineering (DSCEPE) at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur. The research group focuses on geology & geophysical aspects, drilling fluids, fracturing fluids, CO2 EOR, CCUS, geothermal fluids and wellbore heat transfer modelling to address current aspects of industry driven issues by providing research and development techniques.

Awards and Fellowships
Mr. Anupal Jyoti Dutta has won the Best Paper Presentation Award for the paper titled "Retrofitting Petroleum Wells for Geothermal Energy Production in Upper Assam Basin” in the 14th International Conference of World Petrocoal Congress - 2024 organized by Energy and Environmental Foundation at New Delhi during 25-26 April 2024.
Mr. Dileep Balaga has secured institutional funding for presenting the paper in Oil and Gas Technology Showcase and Conference, Dubai, 13 -15 March, 2023.
Mr. Rishabh Tripathi has secured NFiP STEP fellowship for conducting research on "The design and application of CO2 foams at high temperature and high pressure conditions for CCUS applications." at University of Bergen, Bergen, Norway from 1, March, 2023 - 31, May, 2023.
Mr. Anupal Jyoti Dutta has received Best Paper Award under the Theme-ENERGY EFFICIENCY among various participants across the globe at the Energy Summit, organized by the Energy-Consortium, IIT Madras 8-9 December,2022.
