Career Planning

Students are encouraged to participate in an Apprenticeship, Internship and/or job shadow program during high school.

Students can explore college and career programs available through military options.

Teen worker information provides students and parents with information about working during high school in Washington State.

All CHS students will explore careers and colleges of interest on Xello, a web based college and career readiness program. This is a graduation requirement, which is part of the High School & Beyond Plan.

Students will be able to:

  • Explore careers based on their interests.

  • Learn about careers, wages, and education requirements within industries.

  • Explore colleges, training options, and financial aid programs for their chosen career.

  • Create a portfolio that includes a resume, cover letter, and any other electronic documents that a student may need to apply for a job or college scholarship.

In addition to the required career assessments through Xello, students are encouraged to explore careers through the Career Finder website.

HIGH SCHOOL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

The CCRC works with local businesses to support and advertise jobs for high school students. We update flyers weekly for students to apply to local job positions. It is important that all students have an entry-level resume and cover letter template prepared that accurately highlights their skills to potential employers.

RESUME WRITING

Students will learn how to create an entry-level resume. This resume assignment is a High School & Beyond graduation requirement and will be completed during sophomore English classes. Students will use their Xello web based portfolio to create and store their resume.

COVER LETTER DEVELOPMENT

The CCRC can assist students with creating a Job Application Cover Letter. A Cover Letter example is on the ReadWriteThink website.

Students will participate in mock interviews during their CTE courses at CHS. This has helped many students acquire positions and feel more at ease during initial interviews. The following are quick links to helpful job interview information:

The CHS College & Career Center is available to assist with additional Career Planning: Resume Building & Review, Job Application Support, Mock Interviews, and Other Career Assistance.
