The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is the oldest national professional engineering society in the United States. The Pharmaceutical Engineering Student Society (PESS) was created to support the educational and networking needs of students enrolled and interested in the Pharmaceutical Engineering minor of the Chemical Engineering Department at UPRM.
Driven by the necessities of both industry and academia, the organization’s mission is to foster an academia-industry partnership that builds Puerto Rico’s biopharmaceutical and medical devices industry professional workforce. PESS envisions to bridge the gap between industry and academia by partnering with the Pharmaceutical Industry Association of Puerto Rico (PIA-PR) to provide a space to collaborate and enhance the visibility of current industry issues and necessities.
The chapter’s membership community is made up of students interested in becoming professionals within the biopharmaceutical and medical devices industry. PESS aspires to help students jump-start their careers by building their professional network and providing technical/professional development opportunities to prepare for full-time experiences upon graduation. UPRM Aero Design is a multidisciplinary remote-controlled aircraft design team from the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Collegiate chapter from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus (UPRM). The team is composed of approximately fifty-six (56) collegiate members from diverse science and engineering disciplines. This coming year, the team will represent Puerto Rico in the SAE Aero Design West competition, organized by SAE International, against eighty-five (85) teams or more from universities around the world. The competition promotes innovation in the aerospace industry through challenging missions and design constraints inspired by current technology trends. The team’s goal is to design lightweight, efficient, and reliable aircraft capable of lifting the highest possible weight while meeting design specifications.
