About JLT 101

Reflective teaching is a crucial practice that enables educators to assess, refine, and enhance their instructional methods. By systematically analyzing their teaching experiences, educators can identify strengths, address challenges, and develop more effective pedagogical strategies.

This course recognizes the diverse background of Filipino Japanese language teachers. It is designed to support Japanese language teachers in different educational institutions (secondary education, higher education, language schools and training centers) at different career stages—new teachers, experienced educators, and aspiring instructors—by equipping them with knowledge and skills to engage in systematic reflection, foster self-awareness, and apply evidence-based strategies to enhance their professional practice.

In addition, this course aligns with priority teacher development directions in the Philippines and the Japan Foundation. National initiatives such as DepEd’s Special Program in Foreign Language and CHED’s inclusion of foreign language in the curriculum of higher education highlight the need for teachers with the appropriate proficiency and skills to facilitate a foreign language class. This course responds to strengthen the teacher quality in the Philippines as stated in the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers. The course particularly emphasizes Domain 7 which focuses on personal growth and professional development.

As an online course with a flexible study duration of 4-6 hours a week, it allows participants to engage with the content at their own convenience while gaining valuable insights into their teaching approaches.
