Tests and Examinations
The UPOU Examination Services is the program under the Office of Student Affairs that is responsible for the overall administration and delivery of academic examinations done at the University. Academic examinations include midterm, make-up exam, removal/completion, final exam, comprehensive exam and admission test.
Other Types of Course Requirements
Apart from tests and exams, BES courses may also include the following performance assessments:

What are the types of examination administered in UPOU courses?
There are four types of exams administered in UPOU courses. Two of these are proctored exams and the other two are non-proctored. Proctored exams include the pen-and-paper test administered in a UPOU-accredited Testing Center or under the supervision of a UPOU-accredited proctor. The other type of proctored exam is that which is administered online through the UPOU Online Exam Portal. Non-proctored exams, on the other hand, are online non-proctored staff-assisted and online non-proctored FIC-administered exam. These exams are usually administered through MyPortal or any platform the FIC deems appropriate for the type of exam given.
Do the students have to take examination/s?
Yes the students have to take examination/s if the course requires it. Application for proctored course examination is required.
How do I apply for proctored course examination?
Students must check the course sites for the type of exam for each course ( e.g. sit-down proctored, online proctored, online ℅ FIC, online through MyPortal, etc…)
If your course requires you to take a proctored course exam, please follow the procedures for filing of Application for Proctored Course Exams:
Fill out the Application Form for Proctored Course Exams.
The examination services staff will inform the status of your application, name of proctor, date, time and venue of your exam before the scheduled examination.
For proctored course exams, students must file an application for proctored course exams TWO WEEKS after the start of classes. “No Application, No Proctored Course Examination” policy is strictly implemented.
How are the examinations administered?
Examinations are administered through a network of testing venues here and abroad or through an online exam system. In proctored examinations, the Examination Services personnel coordinates with proctors regarding the examination details of the students. Once the arrangements have been confirmed, Examination Services personnel informs students of their schedule and venue for the examinations. In non-proctored exams, students take exams through the Online Exam System, MyPortal and email. In the later, the FIC is the one giving instructions directly to the students.

Where do I take my proctored-pen and paper exams?
Exams can be taken at the designated testing venue that has been accredited by the UP Open University.
When do I take my exams?
Examinations are taken during the specified schedule of exams, the dates of which are usually announced in the Course Guide. However, specific schedules (time) will be announced and posted in MyPortal and other platforms to facilitate dissemination of the information.
Is there a time limit for each course exam?
Course Exams with no special instructions will follow the default time of 3 hours for graduate programs and 2 hours for undergraduate programs. In some cases, the FIC sets the time limit which will be implemented by the Examination Services.
What if I missed my examination/s within the semester?
For missed midterm exams, students will need to apply for a make-up examination while for missed final exams, students need to apply for completion exams which is scheduled in the following semester.
How do I apply for make up-exam?
Students will need to fill out the application form. Application for Make-up Exam can be found at the OUR website. After accomplishing the form, student will email it to their respective Faculty Office, copy furnished the Exam Services personnel on or before the deadline for each term. The Faculty-in-Charge will be the one to approve the request. Deadlines and schedules are indicated in the academic calendar.
How do I apply for removal/completion exam?
Students will need to apply for removal/completion exam through their Student Portal. The deadline for application as well as the removal/completion exam date can be found in the Academic Calendar.
How do I request for a change of exam venue?
Application for change of exam venue can be found at OSA System.
Application should be submitted to the Examination Services on the following dates before the scheduled examinations:
a) at least two weeks for exams to be taken in the Philippines;
b) at least three weeks for exams to be taken abroad.
Requests received after the deadlines of submission will not be processed and are automatically disapproved.
