Our mission is to raise public awareness through dynamic campaigns that advocate for vaccination and underscore the significance of maintaining proper hygiene practices. Additionally, we are committed to vigilantly tracking outbreaks and swiftly implementing targeted measures, including quarantine when necessary, to curtail the spread of pertussis. By fostering a society where pertussis is no longer a prevailing public health concern, we aim to create a safer and healthier world for all communities.
Through united and persistent efforts, our overarching goal is to eradicate pertussis as a significant public health threat, creating a safer environment for individuals of all ages. By raising awareness and disseminating essential information about this respiratory illness through our page and website, we aspire to instill a culture of proactive prevention and awareness. Our vision encompasses a future where generations to come will have greater access and easier means to safeguard against the devastating effects of pertussis.
Pertussis, also known as whooping cough, is a highly contagious respiratory infection caused by the bacterium Bordetella pertussis. In 2018, there were more than 151 000 cases of pertussis globally (World Health Organization, 2024). It mainly affects babies younger than 6 months old who aren't yet fully protected by immunizations, and kids 11 to 18 years old whose immunity has started to fade (Durani, 2023). With this alarming information about pertussis, we've decided to create a Facebook page dedicated to educating people about pertussis. The purpose of our page is to provide daily informative posts to help people understand how to prevent, recognize, and seek treatment for pertussis, as well as emergency actions to take if someone is suspected of having the illness.
