Penalties and Extensions on the Module / Assignment deadline
Based on regulations and university requirements, the program has specific deadlines for each semester, course, and module within the courses. In order to stay at pace with the progress of the cohort and achieve the certificate/ degree at the end of the program, learners are required to complete these elements within the specified timeframe.
Delay in doing so will incur a penalty of marks on the total score received in the graded components present in the module/ assignment.
Being an online program, universities have presented a specified number of deadline extensions that the learner can avail, in order to submit post-due date and not incur a penalty. You may find this count in your student manual and next to the particular module/assignment or case study on the Learn platform.
Ideally, a learner should avail of an extension before the due date to avoid incurring any penalty on the submission.
Learners may apply for an extension only before the due date has passed, till 11:59 PM IST. Extensions can't be applied for optional & expired modules (timed assessments).
The option to get an extension will be available on learn.upgrad.com on the module tile within the course and in the assignment section as well.
The extension can be taken for Group Case Study as well, but the penalty will only be removed for the person who has applied for it and not for the entire group. So everyone in the group needs to apply for an extension from the Learn platform individually.

This information is specified in your student manual. The extension count and penalty are also visible on the learning platform.
We are sorry but there is a certain number of extensions allowed as per the university guidelines. The same can be checked on the student manual or on the Learn platform.
If you are facing any technical issues in applying for an extension then you can definitely write to studentsupport@upGrad.com to get it done from the backend. But in the ideal scenario, you have to apply from the Learn platform itself. If you face an issue while requesting an extension, you will need to report the technical issue. Please refer to this link
If a module has multiple graded assignments/submissions and the learner requests an extension on one particular graded submission, it will be auto-applied for other graded quizzes and submissions for that module.
It will be calculated on the overall module level only.
You cancel the extension request by clicking on the 'Cancel Extension' link as shown in the below screenshot and then clicking on 'Confirm' to cancel it. Once you cancel the extension the original deadline will be shown as a due date.
If you need to raise an extension request, just click on the Get Extension link to avail extension before "Graded Assessments" or "Graded Assignment" or "Case study - Graded".
You will get this option of Get Extension on the Module card as well as the Graded segment page
Once you click on Get Extension, you will have to select the reason for raising an extension request and then click on "Confirm".
