Pedagogies of Care & Equity for Students and Teachers

Dr. Maha Bali

In this interactive keynote, we will discuss how to infuse equity and care on the ground in our classrooms as well as throughout our institutions. Participants will be invited to reflect on their own practices, and we will discuss some practical tips for building communities with Intentionally Equitable Hospitality. Participants will also be invited to contribute their own reflections and stories on the intersections between equity and care in education.

Dr. Maha Bali is Associate Professor of Practice at the Center for Learning and Teaching at the American University in Cairo. She has a PhD in Education from the University of Sheffield, UK. Dr. Bali teaches digital literacies and intercultural learning and is a co-facilitator of Equity Unbound, an equity-focused, open, connected intercultural curriculum. Dr. Bali has been contributing to the field of digital pedagogy for a number of years and was the International Director of Digital Pedagogy Lab 2016-2017.   When Digital Pedagogy Lab came to Prince Edward Island in 2016, Dr. Bali facilitated several hybrid conversations during the event between onsite participants and educators worldwide via Virtually Connecting.

During the COVID-19 pandemic Dr. Bali has focused on creating and curating resources about building community online

Virtually Connecting

Dr. Maha Bali is a co-founder of Virtually Connecting, a grassroots organization that assists in widening access to academic conferences. Virtually Connecting coordinates small online group discussions to try and capture some of the spontaneous connection that can take place during these learning events.
