Winter 2018

Volume 9, Issue 1

On November 19, 2017, we celebrated the 200th anniversary of Presbyterians in Binghamton and the 5th anniversary of the founding of The United Presbyterian Church of Binghamton. Time capsules from First and West Presbyterian Churches were opened. The time capsules contained a variety of items, including:

  • Church directories, calendars, and a commemorative mug
  • Materials from Ross Perot’s 1992 presidential campaign
  • A 1999 issue of Newsweek describing the new “Tweens” demographic
  • A “Soccer Barbie” doll in the spirit of olympic athlete Mia Hamm.

Annual Meeting, Part 1: Sunday, February 11

We will have a potluck luncheon after worship on Sunday, February 11, and hold the “financial part” of our annual meeting, to undertake business proper to the financial well-being of the congregation. We will review the financial picture of 2017, seek to understand the budget for 2018, and establish the pastors’ terms of call for 2018.

The other business proper to the annual congregational meeting, including program reports and election of ruling elders, will be conducted at our June meeting.

Plan to bring a dish to share, and stay as we continue to plan for our future together! Desserts will be provided, courtesy of the Chadwick family’s annual “Chocolate Extravaganza” tradition in celebration of Valentine’s Day.

Our mission is to follow Jesus Christ by doing justice, loving kindness, and walking humbly with God.
