UP HIRAYA is conceived as a strategic response to enhancing UP’s global presence and international student recruitment. As the Philippines’ national university, UP is committed to advancing knowledge, fostering innovation, and addressing societal challenges both locally and globally. Our program is designed to cultivate globally aware, socially responsible individuals through an immersive short-term exchange.

By combining cultural immersion with cutting-edge academic content, UP HIRAYA not only prepares participants for global challenges but also strengthens UP’s role as a hub for cross-border knowledge exchange and community development. Feedback from our pilot implementation has shaped the refined curriculum for 2025, ensuring a more tailored and impactful experience.

TIMELINE OF ACTIVITIES

WEEK 1

Inter-cultural Integration

Philippine Culture & Language: Learn basic Filipino and engage in cultural immersion activities.

Socialization & Team-Building: Participate in interactive exercises, museum tours, and visits to historical sites that highlight the rich heritage of the Philippines.

WEEK 2

Theoretical Instruction

Community-Based Training: Gain practical insights into community engagement through participatory training sessions.

Resilience & Sustainability: Discover the basics of resilience, explore Sustainable Development Goals, and engage in futures thinking discussions alongside academic experts and state university collaborators.

WEEK 3

Practical Application

Community Engagement: Put theory into practice with hands-on outreach programs and service projects.

Group Presentations: Collaborate with fellow participants to develop and present reform proposals that address local challenges.
