The internship will provide an opportunity for communication students to develop strong communication skills relevant to their future careers through:
- gaining valuable working knowledge of communications work in a project research environment; and
- completing works to add to their portfolio.
About the project
Siyasik PH (https://www.siyasik.ph) is part of Project 3: Communicating Science for Public Understanding under the Emerging Interdisciplinary Research Data Science and Society: Applications in Public Education as a science communication initiative on an online multimedia platform.
The website aims to publish various popularized science stories – ranging from agriculture and food, environment and natural resources, and basic sciences. The website, still under construction, is set to launch in August 2017.
Aside from building the website, Project 3 also has an ongoing action-research.
Competencies
- Taking up communication related degrees (junior standing or standing deemed qualified by the college/university)
- Possessing skills good communication and multimedia skills; IT knowledge is a plus
- Has the ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Has the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Has a good attitude towards learning
Duties and Activities
- Assist in research activities of the project
- Assist in developing a communication strategy and content management plan for the website
- Produce popularized science multimedia content (articles, videos, photos, graphics. etc.)
- Assist in managing basic functions of the website (e.g. posting content, compiling analytics, etc.)
- Perform other related tasks as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor

- Weekly progress reports
- Reflections on internship experience
Rules
- An intern is expected to render the total hours required by the course. A standard Daily Time Record (DTR) will be used to monitor the hours reported. A day is considered 8 hours, excluding overtime (if needed). Office hours 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday to Friday.
- Outputs produced over the internship period are considered an intellectual property of the project.
- An intern shall abide by the college and university policies.
