Course Title: Communication Internship
Description: Supervised work experience in development journalism, community broadcasting, educational communication, and science communication (3 units)
Prerequisite: 7 generalist/specialization courses and Consent of Instructor (COI)
Students under the generalist curriculum should have passed at least seven (7) generalist/specialization courses.

Course Objectives
The development communication internship program aims to:
Bridge theory and practice by providing students the opportunity to acquire practical knowledge, skills, and proper work ethic from a reputable development-oriented institution;
Enhance students’ work competencies and discipline as they relate to people in the workplace;
Provide opportunities for students to learn from and network with experienced professionals; and
Help students identify their future career directions.
Expectations from Devcom students during internship:
Practice interpersonal and participatory communication skills;
Perform skills in development reportage and writing;
Plan, design, and produce multi-media materials for development projects;
Manage and evaluate media-based and non-media based development communication campaigns and projects;
Implement media-based learning systems for development;
Process information to facilitate communication for science and technology; and
Uphold professional ethics and standards at all times.
As an intern, the student will spend 200 hours (or its equivalent in outputs as agreed upon by all internship parties) with the internship organization or carry out an output-oriented program. A member of the faculty will be designated as the DEVC 198 Faculty-in-Charge (FIC) and is assigned to supervise the intern in a particular area. It is expected that the intern will frequently consult and work closely with their DEVC 198 FIC and agency internship supervisor.
To complete the course, the Devcom intern should also submit a word-processed evaluation of the whole internship program. They should include their experiences, problems, and suggestions.
Grading System:
80%- internship organization
20%- DEVC 198 faculty-in-charge
