The Institute remains committed to strengthening its science communication, public engagement, and capacity-building initiatives through continued collaboration with the College of Development Communication (CDC). Hosting CDC interns will provide students with valuable hands-on learning experiences in applied communication, while also enhancing BIOTECH’s capacity to effectively translate and communicate scientific research and technologies to diverse audiences.
Under the Technology Transfer and Business Development Program, interns will be exposed to practical development communication work, particularly in science and educational communication. This includes involvement in content development, research-based storytelling, multimedia production, and communication planning in support of the Institute’s Research, Development, and Extension (RDE) Programs, while also contributing to mutual capacity-building between the Institute and participating students.
Science Communication/CIMRC Initiatives (Supervisor: Sophia M. Mercado) [1 intern slot]
Assist in content production and implementation for the Institute’s digital platforms, in coordination with BIOTECH’s CIMRC
Support the development of a standardized social media monitoring and analytics report template
Assist in the data gathering, development, and packaging of BIOTECH technology profiles
Support the documentation of BIOTECH’s knowledge-sharing activities (e.g., study visits, meetings, and related events).
Requirements/qualifications
Demonstrated interest in research, science communication, and science popularization
Strong skills in content development, including news and feature writing
Proficiency in social media content creation and platform management
Basic skills in photography, videography, and photo/video editing
Working knowledge of layout and graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent).
TTBDP Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) Project (Supervisor: Arnold T. Abuyog) [1 intern slot]
Assist in translating IEC materials into local languages to enhance accessibility and audience reach.
Develop and produce social media content highlighting BIOTECH’s technology transfer initiatives.
Write and develop feature articles on BIOTECH technologies and programs.
Requirements/qualifications
Fluency in Bisaya, Ilonggo, or Ilokano, with the ability to translate from Filipino to any of these local languages.
Strong written communication skills for IEC material development
Proficiency in Canva or similar design and editing software
Attention to detail and ability to produce culturally appropriate and audience-sensitive content
BIOTECH BOOST, BEST Sessions, LIYAB Project (Supervisor: John Paulo S. Quitoriano) [2 intern slots]
Develop communication materials and social media content for BIOTECH BOOST trainings
Produce content and materials for BIOTECH Talks and BEST Sessions
Document activities and write feature articles on BIOTECH BOOST trainings, BIOTECH Talks, and BEST Sessions.
Produce short video features showcasing BIOTECH BOOST and LIYAB initiatives.
Requirements/qualifications

DOST-PCIEERD SMART-BIOTECH Project (Supervisor: John Paulo S. Quitoriano) [2 intern slots]
Develop communication materials and social media content for the SMART-BIOTECH project
Document project activities, including trainings and stakeholder engagements
Assist in the development of a project compendium and short video documentation
Design event materials, including tokens and program collaterals for project activities
Requirements/qualifications
Background or interest in educational communication and public engagement
Strong writing skills, including scientific and feature writing
Basic skills in photography and visual documentation
Proficiency in layout and graphic design for IEC materials
Understanding of branding principles and ability to apply them across communication outputs
Application Process and Schedule
Submit an application letter with attached CV and portfolio addressed to Sci. Fides Marciana Z. Tambalo, Director, BIOTECH, UPLB.
Upon acceptance of application (to be notified by e-mail), the student interns must submit an endorsement letter, with attached accomplished and signed BIOTECH Internship C (List of Interns), addressed to the BIOTECH Director, and signed by the Faculty-In-Charge and the Dean
Accepted student interns are required to accomplish the BIOTECH Internship Form B (Internship Agreement) at the commencement of internship.
