Broadly, the tasks the interns may be assigned to will not only showcase their communication and media production competencies, but will also reflect their commitment and passion for educational communication and its increasing relevance in today’s education and development landscape.
Reading Literacy Field Assistants
Interns may be designated as field assistants for DEC’s research project titled Evaluating the Effectiveness of Comics in Improving the Reading Literacy of Filipino Grade 5 Pupils.
As field assistants, they may be expected to perform any of the following tasks:
Assist in the preparation of materials and session guides, or
Facilitate reading sessions and assessment activities for select sections of Grade 5 students, or
Record scores from assessment activities after each reading session.
Production Assistants for Educational Communication Handbook
Interns may be designated as production assistants for DEC’s Educational Communication Handbook, a compilation of educational communication cases meant
to be consumed as an instructional material for students taking DEVC 40, DEVC 144, or DEVC 145.
As production assistants, they may be expected to perform any of the following tasks:
Gather primary and secondary data about exemplary cases of educational communication initiatives locally and abroad,
Following a template, write case entries for the educational communication handbook, and
Create a sample layout of the handbook.
Educational Communication Web Repository Assistants
Interns may be assigned to provide assistance to DEC’s archiving effort to create an online repository of students’ educational communication outputs.
As archiving assistants, they may be expected to perform any of the following tasks:
Collect educational communication outputs such as learning system design (LSD) proposals, instructional videos, electronic books, and modules submitted for courses such as DEVC 40, DEVC 103, DEVC 144, and DEVC 145;
Store said outputs in a common online folder, and
Design a landing page that may be used as an instructional reference of DEVC students for educational communication courses.
Qualifications/ Requirements
Must be proficient in interviewing, research, and writing;
Must possess basic skills in visual design, layout, video editing, and webpage design.
Must be willing to work in flexible location arrangements, such as in an office or a field setting, and
Must be able to provide sample production outputs from the last two (2) years.
