Processing overview
The project team implemented numerous efficient processing techniques while working on the America's Great Gamble project. The team used the "Average Processing Rate (Hours per Linear Foot)" chart from the Guidelines for Efficient Archival Processing in the University of California Libraries to estimate overall processing time necessary to make the collections accessible to researchers.
The internal processing report breaks down the hours processors spent on different tasks such as logistics (retrieving and storing boxes), surveying, arrangement, foldering, and describing materials. The report also provides a narrative, including the time it actually took to process each collection compared to the processing time as predicted in the initial grant proposal. The report explains delays experienced during processing as well as ways in which processing was expedited.
