For robots to successfully interact with their environment and carry out tasks, egocentric vision emerges as a natural solution in Robotics, mostly for robots such as mobile ones. However, despite its theoretical and practical implications, egocentric perception rarely receives the attention it deserves. Furthermore, there are different perspectives of egocentric vision depending on which agent wears the visual sensors. In particular, cameras can be attached to both robots and people, and this view has also been often ignored, and research on the different communities (Robotics, Visual lifelogging, etc.), which often work separately and mostly unaware of one another.
The workshop aims at overcoming this limited emphasis paid to egocentric vision in the past in the field of Robotics by offering a deep insight into egocentric vision. Specifically, the objectives of the workshops are:
Creating awareness of the potentials of egocentric vision in Robotics.
Learning about cutting-edge, original, novel techniques and usage scenarios of egocentric vision.
Sharing knowledge and skills on theoretical and practical aspects of egocentric vision
Bridging research work on human egocentric and robot egocentric vision.
Gaining a bigger understanding of the problems and applications where egocentric vision is more suitable, and where it is not, and why.
Bringing together researchers on egocentric vision from different perspectives.
Promoting discussion and fostering cross-fertilization of ideas among different application domains.
