Programme Objectives - English Literature

The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree program in English Literature aims to cultivate graduates who have the ability to

  • read, interpret and analyze literary texts and linguistic situations in light of their historical contexts bringing in various theoretical and critical approaches;

  • conduct and disseminate research in the fields of literary studies and language studies;

  • use the knowledge they gained as undergraduates in the world of work in such areas as teaching, journalism, translation, creative writing and policy making among others;

  • intervene in situations that involve inequalities and discrimination by offering critical commentaries and initiating creative action as civic conscious citizens;

and

  • work together with others towards creating a more inclusive, egalitarian and just society.
