Programme Objectives - English Literature
The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree program in English Literature aims to cultivate graduates who have the ability to
read, interpret and analyze literary texts and linguistic situations in light of their historical contexts bringing in various theoretical and critical approaches;
conduct and disseminate research in the fields of literary studies and language studies;
use the knowledge they gained as undergraduates in the world of work in such areas as teaching, journalism, translation, creative writing and policy making among others;
intervene in situations that involve inequalities and discrimination by offering critical commentaries and initiating creative action as civic conscious citizens;
and
work together with others towards creating a more inclusive, egalitarian and just society.
