Our presentation explores the paper "Rethinking Academia in a Time of Climate Crisis" by Urai and Kelly (2023), which addresses the imperative for academia to lead in climate action. Drawing from Kate Raworth's "Doughnut Economics," the paper proposes seven principles for reshaping scientific practice. These principles encompass fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, embedding science in the community, team science and fair distribution. They aim to enhance the credibility and effectiveness of academia's response to the climate crisis. Furthermore, these principles not only strengthen academia's response to the climate crisis but also promote a culture of openness, transparency, and collaboration inherent in the ethos of open science.
We discuss these principles within the context of open science and reproducibility to foster a resilient scientific enterprise fit for the challenges of the 21st century.
