An infrastructure, located within the territory of a European Member State, which is fundamental to keep a set of functionalities operational in several domains (e.g., society, healthcare, security, finance, etc.) and whose destruction or damaging would have a significant impact on that State.

A critical infrastructure located in more than one European Member State whose destruction or damaging would have a significant impact on at least two Member States.

CRISR is the nation’s interdisciplinary think tank providing holistic nonpartisan research, advisory, and education to legal, business, engineering public-sector critical infrastructures stakeholders.
CRISR understands that only proactive and focused collaboration among business, academia and public institutions will make the quantum leaps necessary to impact on the development of a holistic culture around critical infrastructures.
Responding to this need, we facilitate a powerful platform of programs, knowledge sharing, cutting-edge research, that support the exchange of ideas and provide a forum for critical infrastructures leaders to engage in the meaningful discourse needed to effectively support and protect our Nation’s critical infrastructures.
CRISR aims at fostering knowledge development and scientific competence diffusion in the field of security and resilience for critical infrastructures.
These objectives will be pursued by:
- promoting networking initiatives amongst research centers, public bodies and operators of critical infrastructures,
- easing the integration amongst academia, Institutions and the territory,
- promoting training and educational activities

The novel value of CRISR resides in the holistic and practical approach to the study of critical infrastructures' life cycle.
We truly believe that the pression imposed by our global interconnected society requires new efforts in educate young minds to the diverse factes of critical infrastructures.
From the education we propose a flipped approach, promoting hands-on interdisciplinary activities before conceptualization and modelling
In research perspective we promote a holistic approach which combines different perspectives (i.e. security practitioners, public security agencies both at local and national level, academia, etc.) involving people in the loop.
