The "Tribology and Industry" Workshop is a long-standing initiative of the Italian Tribology Association, conceived as a privileged forum to foster dialogue between fundamental research, industrial applications, and technology transfer in the field of tribology.
The 2026 edition marks a significant step forward in the international dimension of the workshop. This year, the event is hosted and organized by the Italian Tribology Association (AIT) and the University of Rome La Sapienza, with the partnership of the Nanjing University of Science and Technology within the framework of the China–Italy International Joint Laboratory on Smart Tribology established between the Polytechnic University of Bari and the Nanjing University of Science and Technology. This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to strengthening scientific exchange, promoting innovation, and enhancing the global visibility of tribology research.
By bringing together researchers, industry representatives, and young scientists from across the global tribology community, the workshop aims to address current challenges in tribology, encourage cross-disciplinary interaction, and stimulate new international collaborations between academia and industry.
The choice of Rome as the venue of the 2026 edition is also deeply symbolic. Historically, a crossroads of cultures, knowledge, and innovation, Rome represents a natural bridge between tradition and future developments, as well as between Europe and the global scientific community. In this spirit, the workshop seeks to use Rome as a base for connecting ideas, people, and institutions worldwide, reinforcing tribology as a truly international and interdisciplinary field.
