Carlo Bongioanni

Carlo Bongioanni was born in Rome in 1980. He graduated in Telecommunication Engineering in May 2006 and received the Ph.D. degree in Remote Sensing in April 2010, both from the University of Rome “La Sapienza”.

From June to September 2006 he was involved on behalf of the INFOCOM Dept. (Univ. of Rome) in the Galileo Test Range program with Thales Alenia Space (former Alcatel Alenia Space).

In November 2006 he joined the RRSN Group at the INFOCOM Dept., now DIET (Univ. of Rome) as Ph.D. student.

In May 2007 he joined the IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology).

From October 2011 he is Research Associate at the RRSN Group of the Department of Information Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications (DIET), University of Rome “La Sapienza”.  

Since January 2023 he is Research Associate at the Center for Higher Defence Studies (CASD) – School of Advanced Defence Studies, for the scientific disciplinary sector ING-INF/03. 

Research Activity

The main research interests of Carlo Bongioanni are in Passive radar systems based on FM radio signals, Wi-Fi signals, DVB-T and DVB-S signals. In this framework, he has been involved in several regional, national and European research projects, and he contributed to the development of several COTS-based experimental demonstrators. 

Teaching Activity

• He has been giving tutorial lectures inside the course of “Radiolocalizzazione e Navigazione Satellitare” .

• He has been giving a tutorial lecture inside the course of “Radar Multifascio e Multifunzione” in “Passive Bistatic Radars” .

• During 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 academic years, he has been co-teaching of the course of “Radiolocalizzazione” at the Faculty of Ingegneria dell'Informazione, Informatica e Statistica - university branch of Latina. 

• During 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 academic years, he has been co-teaching of the course of “Telerilevamento” at the Faculty of Ingegneria dell'Informazione, Informatica e Statistica - university branch of Latina. 

• During 2016/2017 academic year, he has been teaching the course of “Telerilevamento” at the Faculty of Ingegneria dell'Informazione, Informatica e Statistica - university branch of Latina. 

• Since 2009/2010 academic year, he has been giving tutorial lectures about Principles of Radionavigation systems inside the Master course in Satellites and orbital platforms, (Master of II level) organized by the Scuola di Ingegneria Aerospaziale of SAPIENZA University of Rome.
