Andrea Quirini was born in Rome (RM), Italy, in 1996.
He received the M.Sc degrees (Cum laude) in telecommunications engineering from the Sapienza University of Rome in October 2020, alongside a double degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia, in May 2020. In January 2024, he completed his Ph.D. in radar and remote sensing at Sapienza University of Rome, Italy.
He is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Information Engineering, Electronics, and Telecommunications at Sapienza University of Rome.
His main research interests include:
OFDM Radar Systems on moving platforms: Development of clutter suppression techniques, including the supervised Displaced Phase Center Antenna (DPCA) scheme based on reciprocal filters, to enhance target detection in moving platforms.
Integrated Sensing and Communications (ISAC): Exploration of techniques such as pilot tone injection in Golay sequences to reduce Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) in OFDM-based Joint Radar-Communication (JRC) systems.
UAV Propeller Rotation Estimation: Application of pitch estimation techniques to determine the rotation rates of UAV propellers, contributing to the classification and monitoring of drone activities.
Non-Uniform Linear Array (NULA) Design: Formulation of flexible design strategies for NULA configurations to improve Direction of Arrival (DoA) estimation and Ground Moving Target Indication (GMTI) performance in passive radar systems.
Multichannel Passive Radar: Investigation of low-cost solutions for mobile passive radar systems utilizing multichannel DPCA and NULA configurations to effectively suppress clutter and detect targets in dynamic environments.
2022-2025: The research activities within the Rome Technopole PNRR, Flagship Project 5 focus on developing approaches and methodologies for the full exploitation of the new generation of fully digital Active Electronically Scanning Array (AESA) Radars.
2023-2025: The focus of the CommunIcations and Radar Co-Existence (CIRCE) project, financed by the Ministry of Research under the PRIN 2022 call, is to study innovative solutions for Radar and Communication systems coexistence
2023-2025: The Integrating Sensing and Communication (ISaCAGE) Project funded under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), in the PE14 Extended Partnerships call aims to develop methodologies and enabling techniques for Integrated Sensing and Communications (ISAC) systems
2023-2025: The RADCOM project (collaboration between Sapienza University of Rome and Rheinmetall SpA) focuses on defining waveforms to be used in a joint Radar-Communications system.
