Project HyGate

Funded by the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (Grant Agreement ID: 803213)

Project HyGate “Hydrophobic Gating in nanochannels: understanding single channel mechanisms for designing better nanoscale sensors” is funded by the ERC Starting Grant 2018 scheme. HyGate focuses on understanding the physical mechanisms of gating and selectivity of biological ion channels and synthetic nanopores. The goal of HyGate is a biomimetic one: devise and design new types of nanofluidic elements inspired by the exquisite selectivity and the gating capability of biological channels. This multidisciplinary project mainly adopts mainly a theoretical and computational approach, leveraging rare-event techniques to simulate the multiple time and length scales typical of such gating phenomena and fill the gap between experiments and simulations.
