A classic song by U2. It contains a couple of expressions that would normally be considered incorrect, not because they are very colloquial, as so often happens in song lyrics, but because Bono wrote the lyrics to this song in the style of the Old Testament.

Words and phrases to listen out for:

1. I still haven't found ... - l'uso di 'still' al posto di 'yet' in fondo alla frase serve a sottolineare il concetto (come si direbbe a Roma - 'lo voi capì che ancora non ho trovato quel che cerco?');

2. climbed - si pronuncia 'klaimd', con la 'b' muta, così come non si pronuncia in 'lamb', 'dumb', 'thumb' e 'crumb' (agnello, scemo, pollice e briciola);

3. I have crawled - 'to crawl' significa 'camminare a quattro zampe', 'gattonare', 'strisciare' per terra;

4. I have spoke - dovrebbe essere 'I have spoken';

5. you loosed the chains - dovrebbe essere 'you loosened the chains' (cioè, hai allentato le catene')

6. my shame - la mia vergogna ('shame' ha anche il significato di 'peccato', come nell'espressione 'che peccato' ma solo se preceduto dall'articolo indeterminato, cioè 'what a shame', il che sarebbe poi sinonimo di 'what a pity');

7. 'honey' e 'tongue' - notare come la 'o' si pronuncia come la 'o' nel verbo 'to come', cioè è pressoché un'a, così come in 'money', 'love', 'onion', 'oven', 'Monday' e 'London'.
