Past Continuous
spiegazione e note: Il Past Continuous (‘to be’ al passato + gerundio) si usa per descrivere un’azione che si stava svolgendo, o si svolgeva, in un determinato momento nel passato.
Per esempio: ‘Stavo dormendo (o ‘dormivo’) quando ha suonato il telefono.’ = ‘I was sleeping when the phone rang.’
esempi (con traduzione):
a) Dove andavate quando vi ho visti l’altro ieri?
b) Scusami, ma non stavo attento – puoi ripetere la domanda, per favore?
c) Cosa stavo dicendo prima che arrivasse Susan?
d) Ti ho visto davanti al cinema – aspettavi qualcuno?
e) E’un peccato che abbiamo perso – stavamo giocando bene prima che segnassero.
a) Where were you going when I saw you the day before yesterday?
b) I’m sorry, I wasn’t paying attention – can you repeat the question, please?
c) What was I saying before Susan arrived?
d) I saw you outside the cinema – were you waiting for someone?
e) It’s a pity we lost – we were playing well before they scored.
