Numeri
spiegazione e note: I numeri vanno divisi in due gruppi:
1. Specifici -
a) non ci va mai né il plurale né ‘of’;
b) la parola ‘and’ si inserisce solo prima delle decine ed unità (per esempio - 2457 si legge ‘two thousand four hundred and fifty-seven’); nell'inglese statunitense, 'and' tende ad essere omesso del tutto.
2. Generici - si traducono esattamente come in italiano (per esempio - ‘decine di migliaia di persone’ si dice ‘tens of thousands of people’).
esempi (con traduzione):
a) Questa sala può contenere fino a milleduecentocinquanta persone.
b) Decine di milioni di persone hanno assistito alla partita in televisione.
c) La loro squadra ha segnato centotrentaquattro punti.
d) Abbiamo chiamato centinaia di clienti l’anno scorso.
e) Hanno venduto sessantacinquemilacinquecentocinquanta biglietti finora.
a) This hall can hold up to one thousand two hundred and fifty people.
b) Tens of millions of people watched the match on television.
c) Their team scored one hundred and thirty-four points.
d) We called hundreds of customers last year.
e) They’ve sold sixty-five thousand five hundred and fifty tickets so far.
